"Wow. These reviews really validate everything I've experienced. I received a gift membership last year around Christmas. I clicked on it, set up an account, and (because it was Christmas and I was busy) didn't go back to it to try taking a class until January. When I did, I was locked out. I have exchanged more than 10 emails and phone calls with Masterclass customer service, trying to get back on to the platform to actually take a class. They maintain that I never activated my gift in the time frame required, even though (1) I did click and activate immediately and (2) I actually have an account login to prove it, that I created when I received the gift. These guys are crooks. I hope the instructors providing the lessons know what a messed up organization this is. Do not waste your money here. Take an actual course from Coursera or any other online platform."********** saved me a great deal of time having already shared the exact same experience I have had with Master Class. I received an e-mail from Master Class as recently as December 2023 notifying me to activate the membership. I activated the membership and should have initiated 12 months of access. The website even tells me I have activated it. It has been 4 months **** so there is no possibility of my membership being activated and 12 months of access having passed. **************** representatives based in ***** have refused to assist. They refuse to provide me with information on when the membership was activated as is indicated on their website and I did in fact have access when I initially activated it.They are a total scam, dishonest, and uncooperative. They are completely uncooperative, we got a gift certificate from our children, tried to redeem. It never was able to log into their site, but they claimed it was redeemed. After multiple calls for support. They completely ignored us. Their customer service is awful. The site is a complete rip off.Review from Rachel B

Warning to potential customers: I cancelled my MasterClass subscription, and got an email confirmation of this cancellation... then they went ahead and renewed my annual subscription anyway! And customer service won't refund this unauthorized charge! Unbelievable (and kind of a pathetic money grab on their part). STEER CLEAR, FOLKS!!!!Review from Fred D

What a scam! I received a "free" membership as a "gift" but they wanted my credit card to redeem the gift, and that it would "auto-renew" for my convenience! No way I was falling for that scam! I don't need a "Masterclass" to see a first-class fraud when I see it. If the content was any good, they wouldn't need to force you to renew after the gift was over.Review from Paul H

This service is a ripoff. The classes are worthless and the support is worse. Asked for a refund due to the poor content available but since it was past the 30 days, they declined to process a return. Save your money and your time!Review from Shanhe M

Masterclass keeps charging me so called membership fee of $240 on April 19 every year since 2020. I have never requested to be a member. I want all refund, but only got a refund of $240 for this year only. I want all my previous money back with a total of $720. However, Masterclass rejected. I would never recommend MasterClass due to its aggressive bait and switch financial tactics. I was gifted a membership, which I found useful, but thought it was expired and done when the year was up. Not so! I must have foolishly forgotten that I gave them my credit card information, because I have since been charged the annual $180+ fee and didn't notice within the 30 days MasterClass requires for a refund. Their customer service was not helpful AT ALL at resolving my concerns. They offered me no recourse. I have never encountered another web-based company that would would not issue even prorated refunds when an error or issue arises. It feels predatory, and definitely not the kind of business practice that puts customers first.Review from Jen B

My uncle sent a 30-day trial to my 10 year old son years ago. My son accessed the trial and used my checking account to access the trial. Though he never actually used it beyond the the one day he tried to access the trial, master class continued to charge me for years. I never got a notification of any kind, I never even knew my card had been used. When I saw it on my checking account, I sent a note cancelling and asking for a refund (as I have now been charged $180 three times for a tool that has never once been used and I never authorized). Multiple emails later, masterclass refuses to refund anything and instead only agrees not to renew my subscription again in November. I don't think it is legal for them to hold me accountable for my 10 year old's attempt to access a gift from his uncle. But either way, it is unethical and dishonest. I will never use master class for anything nor will I recommend them. I have heard of many companies navigating issues of an unauthorized purchase by a child or someone else - and they always refund. I have never heard of a company taking this position. But looking at the number of other complaints - it looks like this is how they operate.
