This complaint is regarding my experience with Backyard Unlimited to install a studio shed in my backyard. They promoted false advertising & changed the terms of our contract midway through. When I signed up with them for this project, they reassured me they had done other projects in ********** and were familiar with the city permitting office and working in ************; they also confirmed they had contractors to complete the job in its entirety, including permitting, concrete and electrical work. Midway through the project they suddenly told me they could no longer help with concrete or electrical, but gave no indication to the consumer that this would be problematic later with who would take ownership of the permit after it was approved. The ****************** advised that I should not take ownership of the permit as a homeowner, as there could be other legal responsibilities. Now I have a permit approved for the project but they wont take ownership of it, nor assist with the concrete or electrical portion (they say their contractors dont travel to ************ even though they previously told me they did). It is difficult to find other contracting companies who will assist since Backyard Unlimited designed the plans and are building the actual structure. It has been 15 months since I initiated this project with them, and it is still not completed. When I signed up with them they estimated the project would take about six months *** for completion. Additionally, they are now unresponsive when I have tried to call or email multiple times to reach a resolution, which is either complete the job or issue a refund. I was hesitant to put 50% down until the permit was approved, but they told me it was needed to keep the project moving and reassured me the permit should be approved the following week (but it actually took 3 more months!). It has been extremely frustrating working with them and I would like to report them for dishonesty & false advertising.Business response

We are sincerely sorry for how your project has been so frustrating for you. We want to assure you that it absolutely was no intention of ours to be dishonest or promote false advertising. When your project was first started, we were only a few months into the pandemic at the time and we gave you accurate information for what we knew at that time. The second half of 2020 and first half of **************************************************************************************** foresee. As you know, we have been in communication with you and have agreed on a way forward to help you complete your project as soon as possible. We are looking forward to installing our portion of the project on the agreed upon date you have been given.
