I have a ******************** February 20, 2022 I went to Jiffy Lube on E Cypress for an oil change. They told me it would last **** miles before an oil change. I was planning on another oil change this week. But Tuesday May 3rd, on my way to CSU ***** on the CA-99, the engine light started flashing and the car was unsteady. I pulled over onto a side road named ***** and used All Star Towing to get to Garys Automotive. Later that day the mechanic called me and told me the damage to my car made my car unfixable. The oil filter wasnt tightened as much as it could have been in my last oil change. And since it wasnt tightened as much, by driving the filter got more lose. The damage would require me to have a new engine and that would cost me $4000, which was the price of the car. I requested a report and got the report on May 4th. In it the report, the car was described as being 4 quarts low on oil and the filter needed at least 2 full turns to tighten. There is low compression in at least one cylinder and the engine was damaged due to the lack of oil. On May 5th, I contacted Jiffy Lube and gave them the number of the mechanic. The manager of Jiffy Lube contacted me again and said that there is no way that the oil filter was lose and he believed the mechanic was lying. He also claims that if the oil filter was lose 2 turns then it wouldnt have made it that far. I told him the mechanic said if it was lose, the driving would make it more lose and the problem with it being lose can be traced back to the oil change. He was uncooperative and said they double and triple check the tightness of the filter. When I asked how the the car could lose 4 quarts of oil if they tightened the filter all the way, he said he didnt know. He said their warranty covers **** miles and there isnt anything they could do and eventually hung up on me. I have the report from the mechanic saying the filter was lose. The damage is $4000 and I want to be reimbursed for the price of the car.
