Government Action: BBB reports on known government actions involving business’ marketplace conduct:

FTC File No #20203138

On September 1, 2022, Credit Karma, LLC settled allegations brought against the company by The Federal Trade Commission (File No# 202-3138).

According to court documents between February 2018 and April 2021, Credit Karma through their website, mobile app and email mislead consumers when sending advertisements and recommendations that consumers were “pre-approved” for third party financial products. It is alleged the company was aware that not all consumers would qualify for these offers thus leading consumers to incur addition damage to their credit when a “hard pull” inquiry was made on their credit report.

As part of the consent agreement and without any admission of wrongdoing, Credit Karma will pay $3 million to consumers who applied to these offers but were then denied credit. The company is also prohibited from making deceptive claims in regard to “pre-approval.”

Consumers who were affected or have questions can go to www.ftc.gov/CreditKarma, to file a claim, or you can email [email protected] or call 866-848-0871 with questions.
