      5/28/2021; $10500 Hired a contractor to install an A/C unit with duct work. No formal contract provided, no permit was obtained by the city, damage caused to structural and electrical components of home, illegal drainage pipe location, sexual harassment from owner, wrong size unit installed for home. Family member contacted owner and requested removal of appliance and full refund plus cost of damage caused by installation. Owner failed to return call as promised until notified from finance company of request to dispute charges.

      Hello ******, I’m responding to the complaint that *** ***** has filed. *** ***** and her sister financed this new HVAC System for her father’s home. Per ***** request on 5/28/21, we installed the new HVAC system, with all new ducting throughout the home. Approximately 2 weeks after install, one of ***** family members told her, that he saw a few problems with the way we installed the system, so we went back and fixed the drain, and was going to go back later to fix a vent. These items were nothing that was crucial for the AC to work, but nevertheless, needed to be done. Also, these corrections would have been noted for us on the Inspectors Permit and taken care of at time of inspection. Later *** asked us to remove the unit and ducting and requested that her money be refunded back to her. We wish we could help her, but we cannot take back used equipment and get our money back, therefor we cannot give her a refund. We were told of a family matter that happened, that we feel may have triggered wanting/needing this refund. We are very sorry, and wish we could help her, but we cannot take back used equipment to get our money back.

       I am rejecting this response because:

      Initially the drain was left midway on our porch, causing water damage from the duration that it was initially installed until the day that you came to try to fix the drain pipe and the electrical breakers. The drain pipe was not extended to the edge of out porch but instead rerouted into a ventilation pipe. The electrical breakers were only fixed by your company after several attempts from our family member to explain to you the error you caused on the day of installation. I no longer wanted the vents that you placed less than 2 feet apart to be fixed because I was informed of several mistakes caused by your company when I paid for another company to come and evaluate the installation of the HVAC because I myself do not specialize in this type of work and would not be able to identify the errors without a professional. Contrary to your statement of there not being anything “crucial” to the function of the AC, there are indeed several things that are affecting the AC to function properly. For instance, the unit installed is old/used, the size of the unit is not adequate for the amount of windows and insulation in the home, the degree difference from the air that is being pulled from the home and the air being blown into the home is less than the amount required in order for the unit to function properly, the unit was not properly sealed on the roof which can cause leakage later in the year, no permit was pulled prior to the installation, holes made in the bedroom ceilings by your company were covered with silicone rather than using the proper material, in addition to the poor workmanship, I am claiming lack of professionalism due to sexual harassment from the owner.

      If I do recall properly you agreed to call my family member back with a set time and date to remove the equipment and give me a refund, my refund was only denied by your company after I filed a dispute with the finance company on the charge made because you avoided contact with my family member rather than calling back as promised with the set date and time for equipment removal. I am requesting a full refund and removal of the equipment because of the cost of damages and repairs. I would like to clarify that my family matters are of no concern to your company nor a reason as to why I am requesting a refund. If you are unable to refund me I am able to compromise and have a competent professional company come and do the repairs to the damages your company caused and have the charges be handled by your company if that is more suitable than a refund for you.
