I own a 1950s-built small ranch home that sustained a flood. The house had to be stripped to the studs and a complete mold mitigation was performed. For the reconstruction, we selected Christopher Bishop Construction due to a positive initial meeting and an A+ rating on BBB. Mr. Bishop developed a plan, we signed a contract in Jan 2022, and provided a $13,649 deposit. In early Feb 2022 new floor plans were being developed as there were items that needed to be brought up to current codes. Then, for some reason, all communication from Mr. Bishop stopped and we could not get any response from by phone or email. We tried many times and it wasn’t until Jun 2022, after sending a terse email that I received a callback. Mr. Bishop informed me he would not be performing the contracted work due to difficulty getting workers, and he would be “closing his business.” He said he would complete dimensional drawings and floor plans for the house, but he could not perform the construction work and would return $10,000 of the initial deposit. In late Jun 2022, I received a check for $9,990 and a contract for the completion of dimensional drawings and floor plans. I returned a note to Mr. Bishop stating I would not sign the contract until I was provided a firm delivery date for the work. He did not respond, and after numerous attempts by phone and email, I have not to this day, heard from him or been able to contact him. In late Aug 2022, I sent Mr. Bishop a note with deadlines, and I also let him know that if there was no response, I would pursue efforts to recover the balance of what we paid him in Jan 2022. I still have not received any response. At this point Mr. Bishop owes us $3,659. We have not received any value whatsoever from Christopher Bishop Construction and our project is now 9 months behind schedule. I have no confidence in Christopher Bishop Construction and will continue efforts to recover the $3,659 balance of our Jan 2022 deposit. I’m hoping BBB can help.
