On August 2, 2018, Salbo Constructions provided us with a contract to perform construction services. We paid initial deposit of $5,000.00 to be kept in our account until the conclusion of the work. Salbo did not provide a total cost but gave us a verbal estimate around $20K. We also paid “Plans and Permits ” which is a sub company of Salbo $2,800.00 for Architect drawings. While progressing with the planning the initial cost more than doubled. In addition, Salbo asked for additional payment of $3000 for engineering drawings that we never approved. We refused to pay. At this point we simply could not afford to move forward and had to scale the project down to work in our garage. We agreed on the scope of work, but Salbo insist on charging us for the engineering drawings. They also offered us 50% discount since it was their mistake. We refused. On Nov 19, 2019 we requested an update and were advised via text that they would “look at our job after the holidays.” The next time we heard from Salbo was on Aug 30, 2021 after we contacted Mr. Salbo. We requested the drawings which were fully paid and requested that the remaining money will be refunded. We were sure that Salbo would respect our request since it was only fair. Shockingly to our surprise on Sept. 27, 2021 we received a reply from Salbo that “Your contract is officially cancelled at your request and we will issue you a $1,000.00 courtesy credit. We were outraged and wrote back to Salbo emphasizing that we never canceled the contract, but that they failed to follow up. This was dismissed by Salbo with a ridicules explanation that we told them to hold off on the job due to COVID. This was untrue and regardless, did not justify them disappearing with our money. We are asking for a refund of $3977.77 balance left from our deposit and that the approved drawings will be handed over to us or the $2800 refunded. Please help. See expended letter.
