I initiated a call to what I thought was Facebook from a number I found by searching google Facebook customer service. The webpage looked like a Facebook page and the number listed was 1-888-971-1012. When in touch, they asked me to download the app HelpDesk Host so that they could screen record what we were working through and help navigate. They then directed me to the settings of my phone where they asked me to go the Language & Region section and scroll to the bottom. There are two numbers there, $12,345.67 and 4,567.89. They informed me that these were pending transactions on my account from someone trying to purchase tablets and phones. In the fast-paced nature of this call, I didn't take the time to process what this was or what was happening. They wanted me to send money via Venmo to a "safe person" on my list and they were going to have me send her money and then cancel to wipe out the transactions. I did end up transferring $2,499 to my mother, and then they reached out to her saying they were Venmo. I disconnected the call, and they called me back 7 times back-to-back and they tried contacting my mother again. I called my bank, put a freeze on my Venmo, but I am hoping they didn't get any other information through the screen recording. During the call, another "department" reached out to me and they told me to take the call. That number was 805-500-8613 and this was the number that repeatedly called me and text me. They also changed people on the phone without my knowledge. I realized it was a different voice and when I called it out he said, "oh yeah, this is the supervisor". On any other call, they will introduce themselves before ever taking over a call.
