Description
A complete nightmare dealing with The A Team Appliance Repair (or another name they go by Appliance Repair Team). This company has a well-planned step by step way to get money from you without ever fixing the problem. We discovered our Samsung refrigerator had died on the evening of Saturday January 6th. After throwing all the food out on Sunday morning we googled Samsung refrigerator repair and this company came up first. Claimed they worked 24/7 and had good reviews. We contacted them and the girl said she could have a tech there that afternoon. It was an $80 charge to come out and they would credit the $80 towards a repair or part if the appliance could be fixed. Tech showed up in the afternoon spent less than 5 mins behind refrigerator came out and said he could fix it for $395.00 today as it just requires a maintenance service call. We said great paid the $395 with cash. Moments later he changed his mind and said it was the mother board assembly and it would be an additional $1100 if we went with a Samsung board. Shocked, he convinced us that it was worth it because it would be covered under warranty and this should get our refrigerator another 10 years as this is the heart of the appliance. He also went on to tell us that in his opinion the new appliances are all made cheap so this is a better option. Desperate to have a fridge we said OK. This time we would like to pay by credit card. Tech informed us that it was a 2.66% service charge so e-transfer or cash would save us money. Quickly we e-transferred the money. Next, he informed us that it would be 4-6 business day for the part to come in. Wow. Again, he assured us if it comes earlier, they would be sure to call. When I questioned the cost, he assured us there was no further costs. Labor, parts, service everything was paid for and that he personally would be back to complete the job. The proof was in the invoice he was leaving. No calls came so on the 7th business day (January 16th) we called back to check as to where our part was. We were informed it would be in that night or the following morning so they scheduled the tech to come back later the next day. January 17th same tech showed up with a tech in training. I could see the box was already opened. I asked what proof do I have that this is a Samsung part and not a knock off? Original tech was quick to show me the box said South Korea so that was my proof. The trainee installed the new mother board. Plugged it in. The original tech opened the door to the refrigerator said it was all good and told trainee to unplug refrigerator. I clearly saw no change from how it was before. I was then told to let it sit for 6 hours unplugged and then plug it in. Original tech said problem was fixed. I asked to keep the old part as I knew something wasn’t right. The tech informed me he needed the part to return to the office as proof he did the job. Needless to say, nothing worked once we plugged it in. January 18th, we called and were told someone in warranty would contact us in 24 hours. We asked why? As this had just been installed the day before. “Because it’s now under warranty was the response. “ January 19th, 24 hours later still no call back so we called back again. This time we were received with hostile attitude and told someone from warranty would call in the next 1-3 business days. January 20th, knowing we were getting the run around we decided to do our own investigating and confirmed through another source that it was the compressor not mother board that was toast. It is an expensive part and best option would be to get a new fridge. At this point a friend recommended checking with the Better Business Bureau and so we did. Turns out this company regardless of which name or phone number they use have a real pattern for charging large amounts of money, misdiagnosing the problem, not fixing the actual problem and not returning calls when promised once they have your money. The complaints were alarming. January 23rd, we decided at this point to waste their time and have them come back since we were under warranty after all. When we called, they claimed they had tried twice the day before to call us. No surprise, our phone records showed no calls from them. January 26 the original tech came out again. We told him how it still wasn’t working he replied “these things happen. Most likely a loose wire”. We watched him carefully look at mother board, move a few wires and then proceeded to close it up and claim it was fixed. Again, we were asked to leave it unplugged for 2 hours this time. On his way out he told us he suspected the compressor would be going next and if we were interested that would be another $1430. Unbelievable because he never once looked or checked the compressor in any of his visits. We were shocked by how confident he was that he could continue to scam us. By this point we had already purchased a new fridge and were well aware of what a scam this company was running. Unfortunately, we were out $1494.99 to them plus the cost of a new fridge. We also contacted Samsung direct during all this and discovered they are NOT an authorized Samsung Dealer. They claim they understand that time is of the essence when you require refrigerator repair. Really. This started January 7th and as of today which is 28 days later the refrigerator is still not working.
