Description

Internet Fraud - Purchase of a 1937 Pontiac - Money Given and No Car - March 10, 2023 My first car was a 1937 Pontiac in 1970. I saw one for sale on the “Trovit” internet site (US Classifieds4All, Inc.) and decided to inquire. I contacted the auto owner via his email address listed in the ad and he began providing responses to my questions and provided photos between the period of 2/9/23 to 2/21/23. The owner’s listed name is William W. Hughes and listed email address is [email protected] and we exchanged emails. Hughes and I agreed on a price and he asked that we use "Drost Auto Sales Inc" as the broker for the transaction. The listed Drost contact is Jeffrey A. Blethen. Jeffrey Blethen / Sales Manager / Drost Auto Sales Inc 165 Old County Road Etna, ME 04434 Phone - 207-770-4577 Fax - 207-770-4568 Email - [email protected] Website - www.drostautosales.com I reviewed the Drost website and I registered, signed a bill of sale also signed by Hughes, and wired $10,000 on 2/22/23. On 2/27/23 Blethen sent an email reporting that he received my payment and stated "We will be able to deliver this unit no later than 3/10/2023. It takes a bit longer because on the road we take other shipments. Is a big semi with 6 cars. In case we will be able to deliver the unit earlier we will keep you posted. For any updates just call me or email us.”. On 3/6/23 Blethen reported "We are on schedule to have it delivered on 3/10/2023. We will keep you posted about the hour at least 24 hours before delivery.”. After not receiving any 24 hour advance delivery info on 3/9/23 I emailed several times and called numerous times on 3/10/23. In addition, I contacted Hughes on 3/9/23 and 3/10/23 asking if the vehicle has been picked up for delivery with no responses. My conclusion is that due to the lack of responses to my emails from Blethen and Hughes and no responses from Blethen to my phone calls left on 3/10/23, I paid money for a car and did not receive a car on the promised delivery date therefore, my money has been stolen. With no communication from Blethen and Hughes, I have no way of requesting a refund which is a documented part of the Drost “Return Policy”.
