Description
In 2026, I was introduced to a cryptocurrency staking opportunity by someone I knew through a business mentorship arrangement. He had been providing me with business guidance, and I had developed trust in his recommendations through our ongoing professional relationship.
He introduced me to what he represented as a legitimate high-yield savings or cryptocurrency staking service affiliated with Phantom, a cryptocurrency wallet provider.
On June 17, 2026, I transferred $85,000 of my personal savings into Robinhood, where I subsequently purchased USDC cryptocurrency. I downloaded the official Phantom wallet application and transferred cryptocurrency from Robinhood into my legitimate Phantom wallet.
On August 4, 2026, following my mentor’s instructions, I transferred cryptocurrency from my legitimate Phantom wallet to what he described as Phantom’s high-yield savings or staking service, advertised as offering approximately 6.2% annual returns.
The platform was identified as Nebula Phantom and associated with the website phantomstaking.app. Because I was already using the legitimate Phantom application, and the service was presented to me as affiliated with Phantom, I believed I was transferring my funds into a legitimate financial product. I was unaware that the destination might be a separate, unaffiliated or fraudulent platform.
In October 2026, I attempted to withdraw my funds. The platform required bank account verification through microdeposits, which never arrived. Shortly afterward, the website became inaccessible, preventing me from accessing or withdrawing the funds I believed were held there.
I contacted Phantom support but was unable to verify that the staking platform was legitimate. The individual who had guided me through the arrangement also stopped responding to my messages.
I have since filed a report with the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), notified my financial institutions, and preserved relevant communications, transaction histories, and blockchain evidence.
My complaint concerns the $85,000 in personal savings originally committed to this arrangement. I am continuing to trace the transactions to verify the precise amount transferred to the suspected fraudulent platform and the amount that remains unrecovered.
I am reporting this incident because I believe I was misled into transferring my savings to a platform that falsely appeared to be affiliated with a legitimate cryptocurrency wallet provider. I hope this report helps prevent others from experiencing a similar situation.
