Description
I received a deceptive direct mail solicitation disguised as an urgent, official notice regarding my home warranty. The letter was labeled "FINAL NOTICE" and contained threatening, high-pressure language claiming my coverage was expiring and that I could be "liable for all costs associated with any home repairs." To make the letter appear legitimate and affiliated with my financial institution, the sender included my actual mortgage lender's name, public property details, an expiration date, and a fake "Home Protection Identification Card." However, buried in fine print at the bottom was a disclaimer stating: "Not all consumers have previous coverage. We are not affiliated with your current mortgage holder." The mailing provided no actual business address or real company name, listing only "Home Warranty Division," a program director name of "Vicky Mercer," and a toll-free callback number of 1-888-538-0818. The envelope used presorted bulk mail postage under Permit #5497, mailed from ZIP code 63155. This solicitation uses public real estate records and misleading, official-sounding language to panic homeowners into calling and paying for unrequested home warranty coverage.
