Description
I am a church musician. At my business email address, I received an email on December 23, 2025 from a supposed "Milly Leighty" (email address [email protected]) which reads as follows: "Hi Mlucke, I hope you're doing well. I wanted to check in regarding the message I sent earlier about the Yamaha piano that belonged to my friend’s late husband. It’s a special piece with a lot of meaning, and she’d be so happy if it went to someone who truly appreciates music. Please let me know if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thanks for your time; any suggestions would mean a lot. All the best, Ms. Milly" I was curious and on December 31 I replied to the email from my business email, indicating I'd like more information. And since I had ostensibly missed her first communication, I suggested that as a precaution, she send a copy to my home email. On January 2, 2026, I received an email in my home email account, from a supposed Trisha Calhoun (email [email protected]), reading as follows: "Hello Mark, Thank you for reaching out. The Yamaha Baby Grand Piano GC1 model belonged to my late husband, who passed away last year. The dimensions are 161cm by 149cm, and it was last tuned two months ago. The piano is about three years old and in impeccable condition. I’m relocating to France in two weeks, and I’d prefer to give the piano to someone who genuinely loves the instrument, as I don’t feel right about selling it. If you're interested, or know someone who might be, please feel free to share my email. I didn’t want to leave it behind in an empty house. I have attached pictures of the instrument for you. The piano is currently stored in a climate-controlled facility in Little Rock, Arkansas, with the movers handling the relocation of my belongings. If you'd like to arrange for delivery, I can provide you with their contact details. They offer reasonable rates, but please note that I will not be covering the cost of delivery. I look forward to hearing from you. Best regards and Happy New Year, Trisha." She had also attached 4 photos of the supposed piano she wanted to give away. That piano is expensive and well-made, and I was definitely interested; at the same time, a number of things seemed off. Nevertheless, that same day, I emailed back and told her I was interested in knowing more, and that I'd like to get a quote from the moving company. I asked for their contact information. On January 5, I got a reply from "Trisha Calhoun" which reads as follows: "Hi Mark, Thank you for your message. I've already sent a message to the moving company, instructing them to release the piano to you. I've also forwarded your email to them, so they have your contact details and will be reaching out to you directly. You can also email them directly to arrange the moving process. Most importantly, provide your address for a delivery quote and schedule a delivery date with them. Once the piano arrives, I'd love it if you could take some pictures or videos of the delivery, it would be wonderful to see it settled into its new home. Please let me know if there's anything else you need, and I'll be happy to assist. I wanted to let you know that I'll be undergoing minor surgery tomorrow, which might limit my access to email. Thank you, Trisha" I didn't respond to this email because I had pretty much become convinced this was a scam. The next day I received an email from a supposed "Dixel Globalink Logistics And Freight Forwarding," which reads as follows: Hello Mark, I hope you're doing well. Could you kindly provide us with your delivery address? This will allow us to provide you with the delivery quotes and proceed with the shipping arrangements. Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you soon. We thank you for using Dixel Globalink Logistics And Freight Forwarding®. We look forward to serving your future needs. Sincerely, Christopher McAstocker Clearance & Delivery Dept. Dixel Globalink Logistics And Freight Forwarding®" No phone number, no quote. Just instructions to send them a delivery address. I Googled "Dixel Globalink Logistics" and discovered that other people had reported scammers offering the same piano giveaway, using the same aliases. I subsequently emailed "Trisha Calhoun" and "Dixel Globalink Logistics" and wrote in that text that my research indicated that this was a scam and telling them to cease contact with me immediately or I'd take the matter to the appropriate legal authorities.
