My daughter went online to renew her US passport. She requested her renewal from PassportSubmission.US believing that this was the US government's passport submission website. This company collected her PII including her SSN and charged her $129 to put the information she provided into a PDF document to be used to apply for a passport with the actual US passport agency. She only realized this upon meeting with the passport office and having to pay additional fees and complete additional forms for her passport. Upon closer review, the website states: "DISCLAIMER: PassportSubmission.US operates as an independent service provider and is not affiliated with any government agency. We do not offer legal representation or attorney services. The fees charged by our service are distinct from any government processing fees, which must be paid separately. Our support staff are trained specialists but are not legal practitioners and cannot offer legal guidance. Should your application require resubmission, our team will provide assistance. You retain the option to submit applications directly via official government platforms including travel.state.gov or uscis.gov." This is not a service, this is a scam pretending to be the US government.
