00I call Same Day Garage Repair to have my garage door spring repaired. Tech arrived promptly. We clearly had a broken spring. Tech explained he needed to take spring off to determine needed strength for new spring. I asked how much to repair. He said $225. After taking the springs off he tried to upsell me better springs for $1600. I told him we’ll stick with the basic. He said that would be $350. He insisted both springs needed to be replaced. He then proceeded to try to upsell me on every component of the door lift system. Including lift drums that were fine. He then complained he was having trouble putting it back together with the old drums and cables and tried to upsell one more time. He managed to put it back together without the upsell. When it came time to pay, he springs it on me that there is a fee to use credit card and the total was over $900. Apparently the original $225 quote was only the labor. The $350 second quote was for the springs, per spring. Who quotes per spring when both must be replaced at the same time, which is actually a recommendation not a must do. Oh, and I ended paying by check, made out to another company than the one I called and the invoice they emailed me was from a third company with no Division of Corporations listing. To be honest, he didn't offer an estimate and I was sloppy and did not ask for a complete written estimate before I had him install the new springs. I totally feel like I was the victim of a bait and switch. They've offered a $150 refund, but based on telephone quotes I since received from other companies, the price for springs and installation should have been somewhere between $350 and $500, depending on the size of the spring. In summary, I'm not exactly sure with what company I was dealing. The names involved at Same Day Garage Door Repair (company called), MH Services Group (cheque), Quick Garage Repair FL (invoice), which was sent from [email protected].
