Description

Responded to a job posting on Monster.com for a library assistant and got an email purporting to be from a Bryan **********, Talent Acquisition Specialist with IntelliCorp. I assumed IntelliCorp was doing recruiting and screening for a client library, but wording in that email and others that followed suggested the job was with IntelliCorp itself which did not make sense to me. Although the email said I should "get in touch" if I had any questions, there was no phone number provided and my email inquiry went unanswered. Eventually, I was sent a PDF document with a long list of interview questions to which I was to respond in writing. The document was poorly constructed with formatting inconsistencies, duplicated questions, and some questions that were not pertinent to the position I was applying for. It also had the IntelliCorp logo with this address: 8707 Commerce Drive, Suite A, Easton, MD 21601. Despite the oddities, I answered the interview questions and attached them to an email reply. My answers were detailed and filled six single-spaced pages, yet only 25 minutes later I received a job offer (attached, with earlier correspondence lower in the thread). The rapidity of the response, the fact that the company name was in a larger font within the body of the email, and other factors heightened my suspicion about this offer. When I realized I would likely be submitting W-2s, copies of my Social Security card, etc., I decided to research whether anyone had reported a scam with this m.o. I found a similar scam on the BBB site, also spoofing IntelliCorp and giving an Easton, MD, address. It did not register with me that they were promising a reimbursement on equipment that the target would pay for in advance, but I do see wording suggesting that in the offer letter: "This position offers a $500 training incentive bonus, which will be disbursed with your remote workstation equipment payment after you sign the offer letter."
