Description
Our household received a USPS letter that referenced our address and a Fannie Mae Mortgage. At the top it said “Official Business – Penalty for Private Use $300/Form 9550-WARR. The letter was marked “FINAL NOTICE” and claimed that a home warranty was expiring. It warned the following: -A home warranty may be required by my mortgage lender to keep a mortgage in place; -That we would be “financially liable for repairs” if I did not call the 888 phone number to verify information. The document provided no company name or return address. The only contact was a toll-free phone number (1-888-355-2808) and a policy code. The envelope was blank except for “US Postage Paid Permit No. 699, Mailed from ZIP 92799” No sender information appeared anywhere. This solicitation was clearly meant to scare a homeowner into calling the number with urgent/threatening language. It claims a warranty exists when one never existed. It hides the sender’s identity. This is clearly a phishing letter.
