I set up a profile on the “youmetalks” website. During the two+ months I spent on the website I received many requests to connect with many men who appeared to be quality human beings, professionals and appropriate matches. Within a couple weeks I built a great connection with a particular man from The Netherlands. From there on out I blocked all other requests and communicated only with him. We chatted daily and formed what I thought was a safe, legitimate, and close relationship. He sent me three separate audio messages. I ran his information through numerous cyber programs trying to determine legitimacy. I found one report that indicated his identity had been stolen two years before. Through investigation I found his information on an active foreign modeling agency, and it was identical to everything he had told me except his height: on modeling agency his stats indicated he was 6’ 4”. He told me he was 5’ 7”. Then he neglected to address me by name in an audio he sent. I then attempted to close my account on that website. I was met with serious and fairly clever resistance from website staff who gave me chat credits to keep me engaged. After three such attempts to keep me, I demanded closure immediately. They closed my account within approximately 12 hours. I had given the man my business email and phone number after about six weeks of communicating, neither by which he ever contacted me. I contacted him via instagram after two weeks expressing my disappointment in his scamming me. He has never contacted me since. It appears his claimed modeling, acting, and voice acting (including his voice) information matches that as indicated on the professional website with the sole exception of his height. I wish I could file suit against the dating website and the individual, but that is apparently impossible given it is out of the U.S. I’d like to publish a book about my experience, but by then the website would likely have morphed with a new name anyway. I am an educated professional working full time in a career and with education and experience inconsistent with the capability of being scammed in this way. I speak out because I wouldn’t wish the same financial and emotional heartbreak on any good person and would like to know that my reporting would assist in decreasing the potential that any women will be scammed. Of note, when completing this report, it would not accept my personal email, stating it was identified as a scammer’s!
