Scam information

This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.

Description

I received an email from what appears to be a legitimate Paypal email address noting that a recurring payment method was no longer active. It then details a charge for an iPhone 17 Pro Max for 1,499 USD and then indicates an initial charge in Japanese Yen. The email provides an incorrect customer service URL and email and a fake phone number to call to stop a faulty payment. I logged into my Paypal separately to make sure I didn't have this charge and then also googled the phone number which lead to me other reports of scams. Upon further examination, none of the credit card information matches my details, so I think it is purely phishing, but it is not clear to me how they were able to send from a Paypal address. Below is a copy and paste of the message: Hello Invoice Update, PayPal Your automatic payment is no longer active You’ll need to contact Apple Store USA for more details or to reactivate your automatic payments.
