'Woman' identifying herself as Donna ****** connected with the victim on a dating website. Quickly moved the conversation to email where she shared multiple photos (some proven to be manipulated) and two videos. She eventually moved the conversation to text. 'She' stated that she had just moved to the town next to the victim's town but was a gemologist working in Turkey and would return soon. After a few weeks of emails/texts she claimed she fell and hurt herself and broke her laptop. She asked the victim to buy her a new laptop and send it to an Illinois address, which she claimed was her work headquarters and promised to pay the victim back. He did as instructed and she continued to insist she had booked a flight to come visit him. After family realized what was going on and researched the scam, she discontinued communication with the victim. There is online evidence that this same alias pulled off a similar scam in July.
