Description

This morning one of the springs on our garage door broke and came off on of the tracks slightly. We called Local Fix Garage Doors (888) 939-7502. They got loads of five star reviews on yelp and google. They sent a repairman to come out in the afternoon. He recommended replacing both of springs (not just the broken one), since if one goes out the other one is likely to follow. I'd heard before that that's a standard practice most garage repairmen recommend, so I decided to replace both springs. He charged $3,500 for the two springs which came with a lifetime warranty. We didn't learn until later that normally these springs can run from $250 (sometimes more, but never even close to that range) - so this was a massive ripoff. He then charged an additional $730 for labor and to get the garage door back on the track (also a ripoff). He did the entire job in about 15 minutes. My husband paid with a debit card and the guy took a picture of my husband's driver's license. He then gave us a receipt and hurriedly drove off. When my husband came inside and showed me the receipt. The company name on the receipt was Garage Door Repair & Install and the number was (866) 747-7982. I was confused as to why the company name and number on the receipt was different than the company name and number we had originally called. I.e. Which company is our warranty with? We tried to call the repairman back but he wouldn't answer his cell phone. When we tried to contact the original company, "Local Fix Garage Doors", we suddenly found dozens of different numbers associated with this company. We called all of the different numbers trying to figure out why the name and number on the receipt is different than the company we initially called, and none of the representatives could tell us why that was. They all just said that their parent company would have to call us back to answer our question. When I asked them point blank "What company do YOU work for?" None of them could even answer THAT. Half of the numbers went straight to voicemail where there was no company name mentioned, just "leave a number after the beep". It wasn't until I threatened to call my bank and put a stop payment on the transaction, that the parent company finally called me back. I should also mention that during our investigation, we found several other similar scams had been reported with this same number. When I tried to look up "Garage Door Repair & Install" online, nothing showed up. They don't have a website or anything. I think it's safe to say that lifetime warranty isn't going to pan out.
