I was recruited by AO Globe Life through a ZipRecruiter advertisement for a team lead position in insurance underwriting. For context, this position would have been right up my alley. I have a degree in legal research/writing, experience in leadership and managerial roles, and prior experience in the insurance industry (legal defense). I was looking for a work-from-home role in a related field that was less stressful than handling over 40 active litigation cases due to some recent health concerns. They were aware of my situation and put me through a few rounds of Zoom interviews. They praised me and said that I secured one of three roles out of over 100 applicants. I was proud of myself and eager to work within the comfort of my home, completing somewhat monotonous tasks that didn't over-stress me, or have me doing 60-hour work weeks. I was scheduled to do a one-on-one Zoom meeting with my team lead and mentor. With no heads-up, they informed me mid-call that it was a requirement for me to have my State Life/Health Insurance License. Over Zoom, I was figuratively held at gunpoint to purchase the Course and Exam over screensharing on Zoom or else they would rescind my job offer. At this point, I am desperate for work. My savings are dwindling and I've been out of work due to my health needs for approximately three months. I didn't want to resort to unemployment because I am living with a partner and have savings. I feel other people are in more dire situations and deserve the funds more than I. Regardless, I need money fast and a job fast; I am going stir crazy. So I pay the $171.56 total for the Course, Exam, and state-required fingerprinting. After I do that, I receive my Course, etc., and begin studying. I am receiving no more contact from my "mentor," but am required to watch "training" videos daily; these videos consist of existing employees bragging about how much money they've earned to date. They explain how I will be paid-- which is essentially ripping people off of an illegitimate life insurance policy that is so bad it cannot legally be classified as "insurance." Then I notice they have not sent me an employment contract. I reached out regarding the lack of one and have still not gotten a response. This company is a total Ponzi Scheme and I anticipate either the IRS or some other Government Agency will have shut them down in no time for fraudulent activity.
