Description
While I was using my Facebook account, my computer screen was completely covered by a pop up alert that my computer was 'compromised by a virus'. Message was in writing and audio. "Microsoft Support. call 844797377 Do Not Turn off computor'". The message completely jammed my F/B. I was unable to get that pop up off my computer screen. So I called and the person who answered identified himself as 'Sandy' and that "yes, we are microsoft'. Claimed virus in the network . From remote access showed a lot of Ip addresses; 'Sandy claimed all were sources of viruses. Person 'Sandy' very believable, polite, soft spoken. Claimed virus network protection could be purchased for 1, 2 or 3 years. Given I could not access my computer (it was completely jammed) I fell for the 1 year which was $599 USD. This all happened June 30/25. ... On July 23, I discovered I had been scammed when I learned Microsoft NEVER sends a message with a contact phone number and gives a phone number for verbal communication with microsoft users. I have learned that: 1. All communication with Microsoft is on-line only. The microsoft phone number 1 877 5682495 answers only with a recorded message to go to. aka.ms/charge. Its a long online form (which I completed and submitted). 2. Telephone numbers with the prefix 344 is apparently known as prefix used by scammers based in the USA. Since July 23, I have taken action ie. contacted my credit card company, cancelled my credit card; changed multiple passwords, blocked the '344' phone numbers, and blocked the email address of the scammers. I will now make a police report.
