Phishing

"Jonathan Harris" called & left a voicemail . He knew my name and home address. He stated litigation was proposed against me, he left a case # and said I needed to follow up by calling Thomas & Moore at 833-870-8794. I looked it up, and that phone number does actually go to a collection agency in VA with that name. So I called them. They said that someone named Stephanie Hunt had listed me as next of kin and that's why I was being contacted in regards to her case. I told them I did not know anyone by that name and told them not to contact me again. They said they would remove my contact info from that case # on file. Weird.

Online Purchase

I am reporting an advertising and marketing agency for what I believe to be misleading business practices and potential financial misrepresentation. I hired this agency to manage paid advertising campaigns for my clothing brand and paid $1,000 through Zelle for their services. Before accepting my payment, the ads manager assured me that their services would generate sales and revenue for my business. After approximately two weeks of working together and running advertisements, my business generated zero sales from their efforts. Despite the promises made before payment, there were no financial results to show for the services provided. There was no signed contract or written agreement between us. I have documentation of our conversations, the representations made before payment, my $1,000 Zelle transaction, and the advertising performance. After seeing no sales, I requested that all advertisements be stopped and informed the agency that I wanted to discontinue our business relationship. I also requested a full refund of my $1,000. Despite attempting to resolve this situation directly and professionally, I have not received my money back. As a small business owner, I find this situation extremely concerning. I believe I was misled about the financial results I could expect from these services, and I am concerned that other business owners may have similar experiences. I am requesting a full refund of my $1,000 and accountability for the representations made to me before payment. I am also seeking legal guidance regarding my options for recovering these funds.

Online Purchase - Solar Outdoor Light Deals

Summary After a two-month delay, the company ignored my multiple cancellation requests, drop-shipped the items via third-party Amazon accounts, and is now demanding return shipping fees for unrequested and incorrect items. Chronological Timeline of Events August – October 2026 (Approx. 2+ months prior): I placed order #SOLD-SL-12498 for hanging floating candle lights and attempted to cancel it multiple times over a two-month period due to lack of delivery. Friday, October 30, 2026 6:44 AM: Solar Outdoor Light Deals sent a shipment confirmation stating the order was on its way. 8:39 AM: I replied immediately, rejecting the shipment, citing the 2-month delay, and demanding an immediate full refund. 8:39 AM: Zendesk automated support opened support ticket #2309576. 9:01 AM: Support agent Minnie Jones requested standard return details and photos to process a refund. 9:06 AM: I responded, calling out the late shipment as a bad-faith delay tactic and demanded a full refund. Saturday, October 31 – Sunday, November 1, 2026 2:36 PM (Nov 1): I sent a final follow-up detailing that two separate packages arrived over two months late. I identified that the packages were drop-shipped from Amazon under separate order IDs (e.g., Amazon Order 111-3526452-2831442 from third-party storefronts) and contained incorrect items/counts. I refused to open them given my prior cancellation requests.

Employment - Student Success Foundation

I was targeted by an employment scam involving individuals impersonating a legitimate nonprofit organization. The initial job opportunity was sent to my university email address, which made the opportunity appear credible. The position was advertised as a remote, part-time Student Support Assistant role. During the application process, I communicated with an individual claiming to represent the organization. The communications appeared professional, and the scammers used the organization's identity to make the opportunity seem legitimate. As part of the supposed hiring process, I was asked to provide personal documentation. Unfortunately, I submitted a photograph of the front of my driver's license. However, I did not provide my Social Security number, banking information, or financial account details. After becoming suspicious, I investigated the organization and discovered that the website, studentsuccesfoundation.org, was impersonating a legitimate nonprofit organization. The website's domain closely resembled the name of the real organization, making the scam more difficult to recognize. Once I identified the scam, I immediately stopped communicating with the individuals involved. I also froze my credit with all three major credit bureaus, placed fraud alerts on my credit reports, and reported the incident to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). This experience highlights how scammers can exploit university email systems, legitimate-looking job postings, professional communications, and convincing websites to target job seekers. I encourage others to independently verify employment opportunities through an organization's official website, confirm recruiters' identities, and avoid submitting sensitive identification documents before verifying that the employer and hiring process are legitimate.

Online Purchase - Guardio

My mother is a senior citizen whose sole source of income is Social Security. She experienced a $143.88 charge from Guardio that she did not knowingly authorize or understand she was agreeing to. This charge caused her bank account to have insufficient funds, resulting in three separate $33 NSF fees from Metro Credit Union, totaling $99. The combined financial impact is $242.88. My mother is now unable to cover her electric bill because of this transaction and the resulting bank fees. I attempted to contact Guardio by telephone at (771) 249-8378 but was unable to reach a live representative who could assist with the billing dispute. I have submitted a formal refund request through Guardio's website and am seeking assistance in obtaining a full refund. I am reporting this incident because I believe the billing circumstances warrant investigation, particularly given the financial harm caused to a senior citizen living on a fixed income.

Phishing - Rencrest Capitol

On November 6, 2026, I received an unsolicited voicemail from a caller identifying herself as Isabella Ramirez from Rencrest Capitol. She said this was her final follow-up regarding hardship loan options and that my file was still showing a pre-selection for up to $41,453 with estimated payments around $478 a month. She offered to check initial eligibility, review the estimated payment, and see whether a hardship program or fixed payment option made sense, and said there was no obligation to proceed just because I reviewed the numbers. She asked me to call her back at 888-695-2135 and said the offer window closes tomorrow, Saturday at 3 PM. I believe this is a likely advance-fee / phishing loan scam: I did not apply for such a loan and had no prior relationship with this company. No money was paid and, as far as I know, no personal or financial information was shared. Verbatim voicemail transcript: "Good day. Isabella Ramirez calling from Rencrest Capitol. This is my final follow up regarding your current hardship loan options. Now that the midterm elections are behind us, it may be a good time to revisit those credit card balances and see whether consolidation makes sense. Your file is still showing a pre-selection for up to $41,453 with estimated payments around $478 a month. We can check your initial eligibility, review the estimated payment, and see whether a hardship program or fixed payment option makes sense for you. There's no obligation to proceed just because you review the numbers. Call me at 888-695-2135. Your current offer window closes tomorrow, Saturday at 3 PM. Again, 888-695-2135." Phishing

On 11/6/2026 I received an unsolicited letter by mail with no company name, return address, or website. It is marked "FINAL NOTICE: IMMEDIATE RESPONSE NEEDED," "Official Business / Penalty for Private Use $300," and "FORM 9550-WARR." The envelope shows a Sacramento, CA origin. The letter is dated 10/09/2026 with a "Policy Offer Expire Date" of 11/06/2026. It says my vehicle's warranty may have expired or be about to, that I will be "financially liable" for repairs, and that I must call 1-888-302-0021 ("Vehicle Service Dept"; Spanish line 1-888-404-2032; hours Mon-Fri 7am-5pm PST, Sat 9am-1pm PST) and have my current mileage and VIN ready. Reference code on the letter: Owner's ID / Vehicle Code SMA1512568. The letter does not identify my vehicle (no year, make, model, or VIN; it says "PLEASE CALL TO VERIFY"), so it appears to be a bulk mailing keyed to my name and address. It carries a USPS presort line ("ALL FOR SCF 207") and a postal barcode. It is a deceptive solicitation designed to look like an official or manufacturer notice in order to collect my VIN and mileage and sell a vehicle service contract. The same form number appears in many other BBB Scam Tracker reports with other phone numbers (833-777-1002, 833-777-1003, 888-678-5131). I did not call. I lost no money and provided no personal information.

I was charged initially 642.45 minus the check they made to u.s.government for the actual passport which was 160.00. in total they took 482.45 in " fees" ?I am writing to file a formal complaint and request a thorough investigation into a deceptive business operating under the contact email [email protected]. This company engages in predatory and fraudulent practices by impersonating an official U.S. government agency to mislead consumers. ?I accessed their website under the reasonable impression that it was an official U.S. government portal for passport applications. Believing I was directly paying the required government passport execution and processing fees, I submitted application details and payment for myself and my two children. In total, this company charged my family over $400. ?When we arrived at our appointment at the U.S. Post Office to finalize our application process, the postal staff informed us that our actual passport fees had not been paid. They explained that this company merely pre-fills standard, publicly available government forms—a service they do not clearly disclose—and collects excessive fees while leaving applicants to pay the full official government passport fees separately. ?Furthermore, the postal workers noted that they were already aware of this specific entity, describing their tactics as sneaky and deceptive, and stated that local staff had previously tried to report them to higher authorities. ?This business uses misleading web design, search engine placement, and ambiguous wording to trick families into paying hundreds of dollars for free government forms. They stole over $400 from my family under false pretenses, and I strongly urge the Better Business Bureau to investigate their operations, flag their misleading tactics, and assist in warning other consumers. ?Thank you for your prompt attention to this urgent matter.

Phishing - Atlas Service Group

Consumer called into BBB regarding a garage door scam, the consumer reported the following to BBB staff: After googling garage door repairs in the local area and deciding that Fort Wayne would be too far, the consumer selected a local website. The website listed the garage door service phone number without a business address, website, or email to contact. The consumer called the company and set up an appointment, which was cancelled, delayed, and rescheduled several times by the operator at 415-403-2985. After several calls of rescheduling requests from the company, the consumer expressed frustration with the operator and then the operator called back shortly after with a final time earlier than the 5pm slot previously given. Upon arrival, the technician asked for a $200 deposit via check. The technician, Ariel Kariok, took this check signed to him, and completed half the job but was missing parts he couldn't get until the next day. The next day Ariel showed up and gave the consumer back the deposit check. The consumer then asked for the final invoice, which was sent to him and listed "Garage Door Service" on the top, and totaled $2,441.11 without the $200 deposit applied. This was confusing, as the business claimed to be "Atlas Service Group LLC" when the technician had the consumer fill out the payment check. Next morning, after the service was complete and the payment check given to Ariel, Ariel then texted the consumer stating the payment from the check bounced/wouldn't go through. This was stated as being impossible, as the consumer visited the bank that morning and ensure there was enough funds, as well as confirmed with the bank that checks have to process for 7-10 business days until a business can know if it bounced or not, not overnight like Ariel was claiming. The bank also stated to the consumer that the check hadn't been cashed or attempted to be cashed, so Ariel's texts wanting payment via Credit Card on a link or via Zelle, were likely a scam due to the technician still having the live check with him. After having the bank investigate the "Atlas Service Group LLC" and Ariel's number, 317-998-2010 as well as the business number, there was no "Atlas Service Group LLC" that performed Garage Door Services within the state of Indiana. The bank advised the consumer to stop payment on the $2,441.11 check to the technician and have flagged the consumer's bank account for suspicious activity going forward. The business failed to answer the consumer and the bank's calls to confirm the legitimacy of the company and the business' official name, despite the invoice/call center using a different name than the business name the technician had the consumer sign the check to. The consumer was also surprised to have the technician texting after refusing a call due to poor English communication skills, requesting then cash from his bank to complete the payment for the services rendered to the company running under different business names.

Identity Theft - Grado Creations - Impostor

This "company" has stolen the name and logo of the legitimate Grado Creations in Albuquerque. False representation. I ordered a quilt and sham set and received a product which was not the quality I expected. The charge on my CC was unrecognizable and originated in Asia so I claimed fraud and cancelled the card. The "company" reached out to me by email and at first I was willing to pay them again until I discovered that they were NOT the real Grado Creations. People should be warned.

This website advertises that they are a local florist in our area. They are a wire out system that pretends they are local. They take peoples money and then call local florists and give them a fraction of the money that the customer gave them. Then when the recipient receives the flowers they call the local flower shop very upset that they didn’t get what they paid for and it’s causing people to think the actual real business screwed them when these people are in a different country taking people money and when they call to get their money back, they either don’t answer or give back a fraction of the money. I own an actual floral business and this website says on their main page that they are a local florist in our town and they’ve been here for 27 years. I called them and asked if they have an actual building in our town and they lied and said yes they do but it’s under construction. So I then let him know that I’m the only florist in this town and told him I will be reporting him. He told me to go ahead, that nothing ever happens with that anyway. Something needs to be done. They are scammers and are making it hard on real businesses.
