On the morning of 12/29/2021, my CO detector went off in my home in ****** ***** *** The fire company came, but my windows and doors had been opened for 30- 60 minutes by then. They were unable to detect the CO. I called Mark Allen Plumbing to my home in the afternoon. The technician came into my home and went to our basement to look at the furnace. I told him about the issues in the morning. He proceeded to take the cover off of our furnace from the 1980s, and instructed me to turn on the heat up 3 degrees so he could see if the flame inside kicked back. The flame did kick back. He took out a CO monitor/ reader. He put the instrument in the flame and took a video on his phone of it going to 15ppm. He then proceeded to exit my home without putting the cover back on the furnace, turning off the gas valve, or turning off the heat he instructed me to turn on. He then told me to have my furnace replaced because they don't make my furnace anymore he could not repair it and he charged me $99. I had a second company come see my furnace. They found the large holes in my furnace emitting 300 - 400 ppm (picture attached). They made sure my furnace was not going to harm us and turned off electric to the furnace and gas with plans to come in the morning and replace it. They charged us nothing to inspect. I believe if Mark Allen's HVAC tech thought my furnace was so unsafe he had to get out of my house as soon as possible he should have red tagged my furnace or suggested I get the gas company out to turn off the valve. The owner told me it was illegal for them to red tag my furnace or shut off the electric or gas to my furnace to make it safe. A quick google search makes that seem untrue especially when we do not have the specialized knowledge and training to determine that for ourselves. The tech also told me 6ppm was deadly. A google search says 150- 200ppm is when CO levels are deadly. I do not want another family trusting this company with their furnace and CO levels.
