I had 2 decks built in 2018 and the front deck, 1st step structure let go this year 2023. Although it took me over two months to have someone called me back (I was calling on a bi-weekly basis), when I finally got in touch with someone, they honored their contract guarantee and they came and fixed the issue at no charge. The only complaint I would have is that it is a challenge to get to speak to someone who can help...but in the end, the problem got fixed and it didn't cost me anything.

Back in December 2020 my neighbour approached me regarding a fence and we entered into contract with Empire. We were told that if we signed the agreement and put down a 30% deposit, the goods would be secured at the 2020 pricing. In early February, I started to get concerned as I was still trying to put down my deposit and add on a deck to the scope of work. Nobody would return my calls or emails. After several attempts, I called the general number and even the receptionist wouldn’t help me. She would always tell me to wait for the salesman to get back to me. Only to find out later he was no longer in that position but she insisted that I wait for his call. In March 2021 I was finally contacted By someone else and confirmed that we were on schedule for late April / early May and that someone would call me for the deposit. Several weeks went by and still no efforts was made by Empire to collect my deposit or return my calls or emails. I knew at this point they had no intention of taking on this project but my neighbour who was also putting in a fence, patio and deck by Empire kept reassuring me. By April 2021 my neighbour was told the job was delayed because they were waiting for the posts but never once was I contacted about this or any other information. Then in early May my neighbour announced that the post had been received and the job would begin the following week, and again nobody contacted me. The next week came and went with no Empire crew to be seen. Finally on May 19th, I received a call to let me know that they would not do my fence. When I asked why, I was told that they could not honour the price I was given. I explained that I desperately needed the fence and requested a new quote with 2021 prices. I was told prices had gone up 200% and he would not provide a new quote. I challenged him and asked if he treated all his customers this way, and his response was yes to all The 2020 quotes. Then I was told that I could request a new quote later for next year, seriously! Thanks to Empire I now have to wait till end of August or earlySeptember for the fence. On a good note we found a nicer fence at a better price. The day after we signed the new fence contract with a competitor, someone showed up to measure and apply for dig permits. That is when I realized Empire had zero intention of fulfilling this contract from day one, as nobody ever actually came to measure and check for underground utilities.

We used Empire for our backyard (multi-level PVC decking project) two summers ago. We were so impressed with them that we hired them again this year to do all the interlock in our front and side yard. Our design included a feature wall and although they hadn't done one like it before, it turned out beautifully. We had a few challenges, as most jobs do, but they were quick to address them. The guys worked hard to get the project done on time. **** ******** was our landscape ******* ******* and was great at responding to any concerns along the way. I would recommend them to anyone and in fact, have already done so to several people who have admired our new front yard.

I too would leave a zero rating if I could. This company is completely disorganized, unethical and deceitful. Be forewarned. They advertised in 2020 that potential 2021 clients could lock in 2020 pricing, due to commodity and labour increases, if you signed a contract and provided a 30% deposit. They would then go out and secure the materials required and store it over the winter to lock in pricing. In December 2020, we picked out our patio and fence materials in person so that they could then secure the inventory needed for the job. When I signed the contract and provided the deposit in 2020, I was told my job would start in late April - Early May 2021. In early March, I was contacted to say they could not honour the contract due to material cost increases. This did not make sense to me because in writing and in person I was told that the materials I picked out in 2020 would be purchased and stored for my property. After finally agreeing to hold my 2020 pricing, I was then told that the job was delayed while fence posts arrived. I asked for the deck and fence to start in the interim, but was told the posts first needed to be installed. On May 12th, I was contacted to say posts were anticipated to arrive, but they could not see the fence gate in the contract. I responded same day with where on the contract the gate was listed. I asked for an update on start date, received nothing in response. On May 18th, I was advised that they would not be building my fence as they did not secure the materials and it was not a profitable job for them, regardless of their advertisement stating clearly the opposite where sourcing and storing materials were concerned, and the $10,000 deposit I provided them. I asked when the patio and deck would be started, and was told next week it could "probably be started". I asked for a firm date, as I was now very frustrated and wary at whether any of my job would now happen. I let other quotes from competing contractors go and now here I was stuck without a fence, and I did not also want to start over where the deck and patio were concerned. On May 19th, they called to cancel the entire project without providing interest on the $10,000 of ours that they have held for several months. Th most recent excuse is that it would be considered a hostile environment because of the cancellations between my property and neighbours in the same subdivision. All excuses so that they do not have to start a job that they did not source for and did not want to absorb losses on, regardless of how unethical it was. To now have to start at square one, in mid-May when we anticipated our entire project would be close to completion is next to impossible. Congratulations Empire. I will have to pay more for my fence, deck and patio, but it will not be you profiting. I was so happy initially with the negotiation and planning process that I went to neighbours and friends to advertise on their behalf. Complete embarrassment. I will now advise anyone I can of the experience we had with Empire Deck and Fence.

We had a great experience with Empire Deck and Fence and the end-product is fantastic. Highly recommend. Although there was an interpretation issue associated with the drawings, the contractor was quick to remedy and was very cooperative. Appropriate care was taken to prepare the site prior to the work, and they did a great job cleaning up afterwards. We would use this contractor again for sure!
