In early March I contacted Done Rite Plumbing to have a toilet replaced and a sink refitted. A technician came and gave an estimate, ($1350.17),which I agreed to and signed. Later that week he came to my house and did the work. Right away the drains were slower, and the toilet made a strange noise. On Sunday I started washing a load of clothes and when the machine started the spin cycle the new toilet began rapidly overflowing. It continued and spread into the hall and onward into the living room and two bedrooms. The flooding stopped when the washing machine ended spin cycle. I immediately called the plumber who had installed the toilet, but had to leave a message. I did as much cleaning as I could and waited. Next day they called and then sent another technician out. The toilet was removed and it was discovered that the first person had left a reg down the drain when installing it. When I asked what would be done about the mess, I was told that a crew would come out and put everything back the way it was. ***** ******* came and used wet/dry vacuums then set up big dehumidifiers and lots of fans to dry the carpet and walls. These were left in place several days and allowed to run continuously in order to dry the walls and carpet. Baseboards were not cleaned and the walls had lath and plaster, which meant that when wet they became crumbly, which left holes that I had to repair. A man came out and steam cleaned the carpet, but only briefly and missing places. It wasn’t until about a week later that I began to notice the smell. After repairing and repainting the holes in the wall, and cleaning the baseboards where splashes had occurred, the smell was noticed by other people. It was definitely a sewage smell and was traced to the carpet. I eventually had to replace the carpet at a cost of ($1344.52), nearly doubling the original cost of the plumbing repairs. I would like a refund of the cost of the original invoice.
