We hired ***** Jones of Jones Drilling ******** to come out to our farm and evaluate a well that was sporadically producing little or no water (after many years of plentiful water supply from the same well). We told him the symptoms of erratic functioning we were experiencing with our well--as little as 2 gal. of water and then it quit. We asked him about re-drilling the existing well and the erratic pumping. But we were thinking it might be caused by the current draught. His response was "You just need a new well." We said, "Ok" knowing nothing of the workings of a well, or troubleshooting these issues and assuming ***** was the expert. He used a water witch to choose a suitable location to drill a brand new well. After drilling for 350 ft. and got only 1/2 gal/min (at the cost of $15,500), Jones recommended yet another location on our property to drill again at an additional $12,000+ (not including pump or installation). We decided to postpone the additional drilling and get another company's recommendations. We contacted 5E Pump and Well, and their representative recommended evaluating the pump and the well head at no charge. He found that the problem wasn't the well, water supply or pump, but rather a loose wire in the well head. We fixed the wire and the well and now our original well is producing 17 gal/min!In conclusion, all we needed was a simple investigation into the problem of the original well. After confronting ***** Jones with the facts, he claimed we were the ones unwilling to investigate the original well. He claims we said we wanted a new well drilled without looking into possible faults with the original well. Why would anyone say that and choose to spend tens of thousands of dollars when a simple wire repair would have solved it for us?
