Mr. ********************** was contracted at a fixed cost to build an addition to our home for my elderly father. We encountered an issue with a gas line that halted construction for nearly a year. When we restarted, Mr. ********************** said no new contract was necessary because the cost would be the same. During the last few months of construction, he claimed he ran out of money, and started to not pay for materials, and kept directing us to work with his sub contractors directly. When his painter damaged our home, he told me to *** the *******. I made the mistake of trying to work with him to get the job done, and we ended up paying more than contracted. He tried to tell us that final inspection was not needed, but WA county advised us that he has ducking his responsibilities. We held our ground and got final inspection done. He told me he made no money and then hit us with a lawsuit for an additional 70k. In the process, he submitted falsified documents, showing expenses for jobs unrelated to ours. One subcontractor shared with me that Mr. ********************** asked him to lie for him. The stress of fighting the lawsuit was too much for my dad who suffered declining health as a result. We offered to pay him a small amount which he rejected. The day before his deposition, he accepted the offer. I suspect it was because he knew his claims would not hold up in arbitration. He had no case but it still cost us.His construction skills are fine (until he decides he wants to squeeze your for more and you refuse, then it's substandard work). He is a dishonest business man. If you decide to hire him, my advice is to make sure your contract is solid, and any deviations should be done in a written change request with terms clearly defined. He will resist, but do insist. I trusted him more than I should have and that is one me. Live and learn. It's not possible to leave zero stars, or I would have.
