Zero stars if possible. Never again. They won’t respond to my calls or emails. Place was absolutely disgusting. Had to call 10 minutes after arrival because the place was a mess. Broken glass in and around the dirty disgusting pool. Dead bugs everywhere. Broken cabinets, broken drawers, nails sticking up on the deck everywhere. Dirty disgusting hot tub filled with black soot when you turn it on. Trash left inside and out. Disgusting FULL ashtrays. Horrible experience. I will never again rent from them.Review from Kathy G

This review concerns the ********** ****** location, property of Sun Realty. This review was not allowed to be posted because (their words) "the review of the home you have submitted does not meet the guidelines to be posted". In other words, it wasn't a 4 or 5 star rating!
This house photographs well. Don't be fooled by pretty pictures. It is in need of a lot of maintenance and TLC. Vents and baseboards are dusty, furniture is rickety or broken, leather is torn on couch. It is drab, boring and has no personality.
The worst thing about this house is Sun Realty. Their 'policy' is to NOT provide paper towels, dish/dishwasher detergent, hand soap in kitchen, fly swatter or garbage bags in kitchen can. When we called the office, we were told we were required to put our garbage in bags and we would have to drive to town to get them. NOT HAPPENING!
Bath towels, wash rags and 1 dish towel were in a bag on the counter. We were told it was because of Covid. Apparently, it is OK to touch our sheets and pillowcases but not the towels. If they had opened the bag they would have found how stiff and scratchy they were. There were no hand towels or dish rags included (we had to use the face clothes to wash dishes, napkins, wipe up spills, wash our face and swat the plentiful flies).
There are only four blankets for the 9 beds, 3 of which should be thrown out. There are no extra pillowcases for the extra pillows, or extra sheets.
NOTICE: it is very dangerous to try to sit down by the ocean edge. Traffic on the beach road is continuous, fast and all over the "road".
Sun Realty: I hope you treat guests in your own home better than you treat the guests in your rentals. You may have saved *** on supplies, but you didn't save us as a customer. We will NOT be back!
We believe others deserve to know what they are getting, or not getting, and Sun Realty needs to show all reviews, not just the 'good ones'.Review from D. H.

Nasty, disgusting and gross. They should be out of business. The house was not clean. The floors had layers of dirt. There was a stench in the house. Sockets weren't covered. Surfaces were dirty. The washer and dryer smelled bad. Spiders were everywhere. You couldn't walk under the deck without spiders hanging down. You had to dodge them to get to the door. Trash was in the yard. Spider webs and cob webs everywhere. This house was not "Covid clean". We had to buy cleaning supplies and clean just to stay there.Review from Michele H

We rented a beautiful home in a great location in Kill Devil Hills. Now as for how dirty it was upon our arrival, how does that happen?! I found a large dead brown bug stuck inside the King bed mattress protector. There were visible crumbs and candy on the floor and on the two single beds. The third bedroom mattress had a comforter on top of the Queen bed, as I removed it there was a large urine stain on the mattress. The urine was fresh and smelled awful. I called their office asap. I was transferred to housekeeping, housekeeping came out and still did not get the crumbs and candy out of the second bedroom! As for the urine stained mattress, Carpet ********* a local company was sent out. The room was fumigated and the mattress steamed cleaned. They came out twice to do this. The relator told me to have my young child sleep in there it was fine! He did not clearly. The second time they sprayed my family and I had respiratory issues and horrible burning pain in our eyes due to the chemicals used. I was able to get the info on the chemicals used and look them up. They both cause repository issues, eye irritation, and possible death. Also, it stated that if those chemicals were used you should leave the residence for 24-48 hours... No one told my family this we stayed in the home! They seriously could have killed one of us as my children and I have hideous allergies and thank goodness we had meds on had to combat the breathing compactions we awoke to. Pure incompetence on Sunrealtys behalf the realtor and broker should be ashamed of themselves.
Finally, the Broker came out on day 2 and stated she'd have the mattress removed.
This home was just a mess and the way Sunrealty handled it was appalling. They acted as though I was the problem. No one even apologized for what they put my family through.
The kitchen was dirty, surfaces had a film on them, cabinets had food all over them , fridge had human hair stuck inside it, fans were covered in black dust, air filters were covered in black dust, cigarette butts all over the carport.
Just plain gross for the money we spent. I had to fight tooth and nail to be compensated for the nonsense Sunrealty put us through. I do not have any idea how this company is in business, they are pure garbage! Relators have no morals or work ethic.
We rent 7/11/2021, so for anyone looking to rent for them don't do it not worth the headache.Review from Eileen P

After abiding by the after 5pm check in, due to the fact that the cleaning crew needed extra time to clean, we checked in to Lost Horizon, after 7pm only to find the house had not been cleaned . We were greeted with a pile of dirty linens from the previous renter in a pile at the front door. By time the cleaner came back to collect said linens, we were able to see the rest of the house. It was filthy! When the cleaner came to the house I showed him the house and he confirmed that he was unable to clean the house because "there were no cleaning products in the house" . Called agency again, and tried to come up with solution. My suggestions of putting us up in hotel, or another house for the night until this unit could be cleaned was rejected by the agency. I asked if I paid for a hotel for the night would they would reimburse me for the night's stay at my rental since I could not stay in someone else's filth during COVID was also denied. So at 10:00 at night I went to the store and bought cleaning products and cleaned the rental house from top to bottom. DISGUSTING! From the look of my cleaning, it was clear this house hasn't been cleaned in a while. So after a long day of travel and late check in I had over an hour and a half of cleaning to do.. Sun Realty responded they were sorry I felt I had to "reclean" to my standards. I didn't have to reclean, I had to CLEAN! I sent pictures to agency and they are just very versed in deflecting negative comments. There was plenty more issues, similar to other reviews but the filth of the unit was most problematic. If you are the owner of Lost Horizon, Sun Realty is doing you a disservice! If you are thinking about renting from Sun Realty, DON'T! The reviews are true. Properties are filthy and they don't care about customer service or satisfaction. If I could give zero stars I would have.Review from Allison S

Horrible experience! I am here on my honeymoon spent over ****** for a week long stay and an additional **** for early check in. I drove 12 hours for this stay and was looking forward to relaxing in our own place. However, upon arrival there were bugs crawling around the laundry room with dirt and rust caked on the washer. (This was my first view of the house) It appears that the linen was changed in each room however dust and dirt coating headboards, thick dust/ dirt covering both of the refrigerators and best of all there was no toilet paper or soap. I had called and spoke with 3 different people about my concerns for the house and it's cleanliness. They had sent over a house keeper who gave us 3 rolls of toilet paper for the entire duration of our stay (mind you this house is supposed to sleep up to 10 people) and 3 bars of soap. In addition there was a broken bench with nails and wood fragments on the top balcony (definitely a concern if there were children staying). After voicing my concerns little effort was made to make the stay right I had to ask for compensation and after a trying experience I was only offered my early check in fee to be refunded. I would absolutely not recommend this house 'Quackin Up' that is run by Sun Realty company in Duck NC. I am very disappointed with this level of customer service and disinterest in correcting the basic cleanliness of the home.Review from Jami B

Signed the contract and paid for a rental in January, that was for July. Messaged me in in the middle of may to tell me I can no longer get the house and that they have no houses to offer for that week, then tells me it will take several weeks to get my money back. So basically ruined my family vacation. When we rented with seaside reality this happend and they put us in a nice house comparable to the one we initially rented. Sun reality doesn't even seem to care. It doesn't deserve one star.Sun Realty of Nags Head, Inc. Response

While we completely understand you are upset due to the home you reserved will not be available, please understand that at this time we do not have a comparable property to relocate you. We obviously would have relocated you if there were anything available at all. Lastly, we looked at literally every other rental company in the area to see if anyone had anything comparable, and no one did. It is my understanding that all this information was relayed when you spoke with management this past Monday.
We do care, very much. A full refund has been issued to both credit cards used for payment. Please reach out to your credit card company and ask them how long it takes for their processor to handle things on their end. Again, we have released all funds paid to us. Since COVID last year we have seen a change in practices of how/when refund crediting is passed onto our guest's bank. We have seen it can take 2-4 weeks, and then again, sometimes it does not. Believe me, we are just as frustrated as our guests because people do not believe us when we explain we have zero control on the amount of time it takes to receive a refund from us. We sincerely hope that a home becomes available, and you can enjoy the wonderful Outer Banks soon! On that note, now is a great time to go ahead and reserve for 2022.
