I had an issue as I signed up for an 18 month period, when I received the contract with the total I was to pay in 18 months and I called to ask about the specific charges as the amount seemed very high to me, I wanted some clarification. I also asked about the cancellation policy but never said I wanted to cancel. Also, the representative told me I had to go to the gym to activate or cancel the membership and that I had 7 days to cancel. I showed up the next day at the gym to activate the membership and use the gym but was told my membership was cancelled. I never asked to cancel the membership. The customer service worker told me that when someone is unhappy, the gym's policies are to cancel the membership. When I spoke to him, he also asked me me why I wanted to sign up if I was so unhappy, but I wasn't unhappy, I was just asking questions over the phone to get someone to explain to me why the membership went from $27 biweekly to $1314 total. I told her that I'm just asking questions and that it doesn't mean I'm unhappy. Also, no email was sent informing me of the cancellation. To have my membership canceled without my consent just because I called to ask about the price and then to be told in person that if I ask questions it means I'm unhappy and I shouldn't join makes me think that your gym has a terrible work environment. It's worth noting that I still haven't received the $131 fee that I was charged for joining the gym. If I could I would give zero stars, this business is horrible, you go there to want to be in better health and end up with mental illness.Review from Jeff P

Manager if Mariemont Ohio location very confrontive over minor to null issues. Threatened to cancel my card over me disagreeing with him over a traffic legality??? Last week he left the bench and barbell for 10 minutes. I started stacking my weights on it he comes over and takes over said he was distracted. ??? Not a customer/member friendly environment.Review from Arianne N

I'd give them 0 stars if I could. I'm disabled and wanted to sign up for our Local Anytime Fitness. Got signed up, half a year later due to disability I began having issues getting into the gym. I understand I signed a one year contract, but wrote them a letter and mailed it to the establishment asking to terminate my contract early. Never heard back from them and accepted it. Then it came time to auto renew my membership and I contacted them three separate times through three separate methods to not auto renew my contract. They did anyway. Got sick of dealing with my local gym and the intimidating man who runs it, so called ABC the parent company and spoke with someone directly. They were super apologetic and asked me to give them a week to do an investigation of my gym and refund me from when I sent the first letter. It's been a month and I have heard nothing and am still being charged twice a month. Finally had to do a chargeback with my bank. Do better at customer service.Review from Stephen W

The corporate model is awful. All they do is collect money and do not enforce safety standards on their franchisees. I spoke with the owner of the location where I have been frequenting recently. I discussed with him how a member was not securing plates on a barbell with collars when there were plenty available to do so. I told the owner that this is unsafe behavior by a member and increases the chance of injury to other members, as the plates could fall off and roll and hit or drop onto other members. The owner told me it was MY responsibility to move my workout to another part of the gym--despite certain equipment not being moveable and the fact that this is NOT my responsibility. The owner went so far as to tell me that if he was the other member and I requested him to secure the plates on the barbell, he would tell me to "kick rock". The manager overheard some of this exchange and even laughed. Anytime Fitness has proven in multiple scenarios to allow too much discretion to gym owners and managers, but this is the most glowing example of adverse impacts to customers. Members cannot sign contracts while safety is not the highest priority for all of your franchises. Despite locations are not staffed at all times and unsafe behavior cannot be completely policed, a manager not supporting reasonable expectations conducive to member safety is unacceptable! Anytime Fitness corporate must insist to franchisees that such member behavior is discouraged.Review from Jocelyn J

1 star only because i cant choose 0. My membership is UP. Therefore the contract IS DONE. I call to tell them I was canceling. They proceeded to tell me I needed to pay for another 30 days. They also proceeded to withdraw money from my account. I used my membership 3 times the whole year. Paying 80.00 a month. My husband didn't use his at all. Also paying 80.00 per month. So they are no longer authorized to bill me as I have not signed another contract authorizing to do so, and even filled out cancelation forms. They won't return calls or emails., but continue to charge my account.Review from Kelly T

This business is corrupt!!! Same issue I am seeing in all these reviews. I tried to cancel my membership as a gym closer opened up. When I joined in October of 2022 the gym manager in Ocala fl gave me a form I signed and stated I could cancel anytime without reason and pay a small fee. When I tried to cancel in Jan 2023 they told me my contract was null in void without even any written document of new rules and I sure didn’t sign anything new. They refused to cancel my membership went to my back thank goodness I didn’t use my checking and savings account and stopped payment of that doesn’t work I will cancel the card. This business needs to be shut down corrupt! BBB do not give this a A + rating it is a F!Review from Rachel E

I have had a nightmare of a time canceling my membership with anytime fitness in London, Oh. This gym not only refused to let me cancel my membership, they also proceeded to continue to charge my account. When I demanded they stop charging the account after I had even went to my bank and changed cards, cvv codes, and put a stop payment on the anytime fitness charge via the bank, they were still somehow getting into my account and making unauthorized charges. I now have charges for the months of April 2022 -July 2022 that were taken from my account without my permission.Review from Erin S

I joined my local Anytime Fitness in January 2022. What a mistake! I joined under a promotion that the yearly fee would be waived, and I would only have a biweekly charge. Well last week, I was assessed an "annual fee" that WAS NOT disclosed. I disputed the charge with my bank. I have since learned that the owners of the gym, sold it shortly after I joined. I had previously complained about the cleanliness of the gym - I got a response that there were trying to find a cleaning company. How about have the manager that sits in the office all day doing NOTHING, get off his butt and clean! The machines were dusty, trash cans over flowing - and cracked glass window for weeks! And after being socked with a "hidden fee", I am done! Don't waste your time! Don't fall for the trap!
