If you are considering ServPro DeSoto I suggest you weigh your options. I told our insurance adjuster I don't know if ServPro DeSoto is competent at what they do, but I do know I never would hire them again. For the 150 days they were supposedly my service provider they managed to get absolutely nothing accomplished.
After a broken water pipe flooded part of our home during a deep freeze, we arranged for ServPro DeSoto to install new flooring on Feb. 18, 2021. ServPro Alabama came in as a pinch hitter and wrung out the house very efficiently. ServPro DeSoto then followed up. I fired the DeSoto contingent on July 22.
While our project was complicated (it took time to locate a second burst pipe, then decide to replace kitchen tile), I have to say ServPro DeSoto consistently dropped the ball over those five months. I could mention half a dozen times they fell short. Take the odd case of the laminate flooring.
Late in April we thought the work was ready to begin. On April 22, we selected the style of flooring we wanted and texted the ServPro construction manager the model number for flooring made by ***** and stocked by big hardware chains such as *****. I thought the brand would be easy to procure. The construction manager replied it would take a day or two to track down his flooring wholesaler.
For the next week I heard nothing. On April 30, I called the construction manager. He said the wholesaler was out of touch attending a convention. I scheduled a meeting May 4 to meet in the ServPro DeSoto office and for the first time go over the timetable and details required to remodel the kitchen, master bedroom and master bath.
On May 4, ServPro cancelled the meeting. No one ever rescheduled it. The next day I called them to reschedule for May 6. The morning of May 6 a service manager called to say there was no need for a meeting and that someone from the ServPro DeSoto office would call later to let me know where the project stands. I waited patiently. My phone didn't ring.
On May 11, I phoned the service manager. He told me the construction manager was waiting for me to supply him with the model number for the laminate flooring. I resent the original April 22 note to both the construction manager and service manager citing the ***** flooring. I am available by mobile phone, text and email. My wife also has a mobile phone. We waited patiently. But here's the thing. ServPro never replied.
On May 20, I left a phone message with the service manager asking the status of the flooring. No one replied. On May 24, I drove to the ServPro DeSoto office and asked the construction manager whether he had tried to procure the ***** flooring. He recommended we select flooring made my *********, which ServPro just happened to have in stock.
I should have fired these people at that moment. I didn't. Remodeling my home takes some complexity and coordination and I thought these guys, despite their odd style of customer service, could get it done once they rolled up their sleeves and started to work. What I did do, thankfully, was get in touch with ********* in North Carolina and ask who else stocks their flooring near me. They said Tim H**** ****** did. I hired H**** for a living room project separate from the kitchen and bedroom work covered by the insurance company.
Early in July, ServPro DeSoto finally scheduled a start time, 9 am July 22. That morning the lone worker arrived without the jack hammer (needed to lift tile flooring). He left in search of the tool. Three hours later he was still searching. I called the service manager, said I would fire them. He said at least let the guy do the tile. I said OK but I would have another firm handle the flooring. A few minutes later the construction manager called. Either ServPro does the tile as well as the flooring or it does nothing. I fired them and hired Tim H**** to handle it all.
A crew of three arrived. It cost a bit more, but was worth it. H****'s guys got it done, got it done quickly and did good work. I should have hired them in February.
