I got my first pair of hearing aids about 2-3 weeks ago. Since then, wearing a mask has significantly interfered with the proper wearing and use of the hearing aids. Consequently, I don't wear a mask.
The Medical Center "mandates" mask wearing, so I tried to wear one for little bit when I checked in, but it was not working out. The mask continued interfering with my hearing aids, so I removed it when I sat down with the registration clerk. She confessed that she didn't believe that there was even a state mask mandate anymore and that it was just Ocshner company policy to make people wear masks.
No one said anything to me until I was sitting in a waiting area again, waiting to be taken back for the ultrasound.
A woman (a hospital employee of some sort) was walking by and asked me to put on my mask. She spoke with a poor, resentful attitude. I told her that I couldn't because it was interfering with my hearing aids. She became indignant and said she could bring me a face shield. I told her that I'm sorry, but that wouldn't be any better.
A few minutes later, a man with a clipboard appeared and asked me if I wanted a mask from a new box. I explained to him that it didn't matter, and that I couldn't wear a mask anyway because it was interfering with my hearing aids. He then told me that he would not take me back for my ultrasound if I wasn't wearing a mask! They actively refused medical treatment because I could not wear a mask! I responded with, "Ok, have it your way. I will include this in my followup report to my Congressman". Then I left, and headed back home. This is shameful. Consider the times similar incidents were never reported!
