DC Our 14 year old 3 ton 2 stage heil home ac and furnace system needed immediate replacing. I remember having paid Diligent Mechanical Air Cond of Donna about $6000 with some duck work. The 2 stage unit, though more expensive than a single stage, turned out to be very efficient. Our average electric bill was $180, Diligent gave us great service and I highly recommend this ac business. Unfortunately Diligent is not a carrier dealer nor do they accept credit cards. Paying with credit card was a must (air miles). Seriously considered a lennox and two carrier dealers. Price wise an entry level lennox merit system came in at $9750. The other carrier dealer offered a mid level performance system at $9000 but wanted 3% more for using a credit card. When it came time to purchase the system they said the unit they had in stock had already been sold and the price had gone up. Also they couldn't assure me when a unit would arrive after they had ordered it. In the age of electronic tracking, I didn't understand that. Decided to keep shopping. Colair's rep promptly came by; called Ruben to see what units were available and placed him on speaker. Ruben checked inventory; said there was a unit in Corpus but it was a 3 ton 2 stage performance heat pump, not the ac /furnace unit I had been looking into. I already knew heat pumps are more efficient and priced higher. I negotiated a price of $9500 and a labor warranty of 5 years. During negotiations I actually wanted to speak to Ruben. He was on a cross country trip but did return my call. Nothing better than to be able to speak directly to the business owner. One business day later the heat pump was installed. So far so good. Only 4 stars at this point; we will see as to Colair's long term commitment to honor their product and work.
