Pete Wall Plumbing Company, Inc. Response
02/23/2024
In response to BBB complaint via email dated 2.21.24:
The plumbers start time was 7:30 9:10 and we charge $210 per hour from dispatch until completion which includes travel time as well. Customers location was hr away from our shop. We will, however, credit hr which is $56.04 ($52.50 + tax).
As for the actual work and diagnosis, below are the details as follows:
There was nothing indicating that customer informed we would need a 1 trap or about the galvanized piping on work order.
Whoever roughed in the tub & shower valve did not adjust it correctly in the wall for the thickness of the mud and tile so it needs to be readjusted so trim can be installed. Customer had Delta trim that could not be installed on the type of valve that was already installed. If the correct trim had been available,we could have adjusted the valve in the wall and installed it. Customer may want original person that installed the valve initially to come back and adjust properly.
Whoever set the water closet (toilet) ****** did not have the bolt holes set evenly and bowl was crooked, so we set the water closet in place without bolting down so customer could approve its location since it would be set back crooked. Customer approved the location and we then pulled the water closet bowl and installed the wax seal and reset it.
We were asked to check the upstairs tub and shower valve (which was not part of the original work order) because it was dripping. To repair it would involve a new cartridge which we did not have and would have to provide on a subsequent trip.
It seems as if we were the second company or set of people to work on this plumbing, so coming behind someone elses work and not knowing what we will encounter is not always cheap and easy, and will sometimes require additional trips to complete to the customers satisfaction.
We feel that we did not take advantage of the customer in any way and our labor costs (minus the hr) and material costs were fair for what we provided. Our reputation is important to us so we try to be as proficient and fair as possible with all of our customers. When customers provide their own materials, we can only install them if they are correct for the job. It is especially difficult when we are following behind a previous plumbers work and expected to repair or complete what they did not without added costs. We are sorry that the customer feels we did not complete the work to their satisfaction, but we could only work with what we were provided, and on occasion, have to make additional trips to get proper materials to complete the job. Our plumbers work hard and have no reason to purposely leave a job incomplete because their very livelihood depends on the quality of work they complete, not the quantity. Again, we are sorry that we were not able to satisfy the customer. As stated before, we are willing to delete hour off of the total, but we believe our diagnosis and work performance was fair considering the above stated circumstances.
