I had a guaranteed and fixed price move based on an in-home inspection that included Disassembly & Assembly for every walk thru items for our house. Gentlemen Movers [1001 Pinnacle Point Dr ste #112, Columbia, SC 29223,803.319.3646] added additional stress to this situation by leaving thing in mess and handled each step unprofessionally. I am writing this formal complaint so others can learn from this and safeguard from not using Gentlemen Movers for their short or long-distance move. Here are the following listed items that I came across & like to share.I have called Robert to confirm it’s a fixed price & hence awarded him the contract. 1) Charging almost 20% again then then agreed price & charging credit card without consent. After moving Gentle movers directly charged my credit card for $1265 without my consent which was requested much more money than they quoted originally. We had a fixed price moving quote of 6000$ that was fully paid in cheque in 2 installments of 3000$ each. I have requested to pay only by cheque but charged my credit card without asking or taking permission. 2) Lost parts to my Swings/Bed/Furniture/Dome and generally made a huge mess of personal things 3) Scratched our Steps/Refrigerators/Furniture/Wall/Floor etc 4) Left many things unassembled & Movers left house saying they need to return to Columbia & they will not be able perform rest of agreed upon service e.g Swing/Dome unassembled, Left TV on ground & said they are out of time. 6) Master/Bunk Bed were assembled with just few screws leaving it dangerous & hazardous condition to sleep. 7) Tempurpedic mattress has been damaged with water during the move & smelling bad. I am yet to uncover other things & making me nervous. 8) We originally plan to take comforter with us in car , We didn’t ask for any boxes & they kept on offering us & ultimately made a big deal of using it. 9) Their team was not equipped with hydration & equipment's & has to supply with water/soda/unassembly thingsGentlemen Movers Response

Our client, Mr. L**, was never provided with a quote, "fixed price." He was informed from the beginning that we are an hourly rate company and that the estimate he received was just that, an estimate. He was notified that should there be any remaining balance after his initial payment by check, he would be given an opportunity to pay by any manner he wished. After the move was completed, there was a balance of $1,265.00 remaining and he refused to pay, continually citing this non-existent "fixed payment" agreement, and so therefore his card was charged for the remaining balance.
In terms of the damages he's claiming, no photographs or proof of any damages whatsoever were ever provided to us. Additionally, it is the policy of our company not to address damages until full payment for the move has been received. In the case of Mr. Lad, he filed a fraudulent chargeback with his bank against us and the remaining balance of of $1,265.00 was deducted from our account. It is our position that we are still owed this money, and therefore any damages, if they are even legitimate at all, will not be addressed until payment has been rendered.
In our opinion, we have acted in good faith and within contractual stipulations with Mr. L**. We are therefore regrettably at an impasse with him.Gentlemen Movers

This was the worst experience! We had Robert come over an give us a quote to pack and move stuff into our 40ft Container that we purchased and had on our trailer. Robert came out and looked at everything and looked in everything. He told us it should not be that much. We were very great full for that as we were on a budget. He gave us an estimate of $2820.75. This is how it was written up: Name: ******** Mobile# ******** Move Date: Jan 2023 Move From: Our Address Move To: Loading Trailer 4 Men 0 Truck = 1,462.50 6.5 Hours @ $225.00 /Hr = _________ 1 Oversized items $75.00 per item =$75. Boxes = $998.25 Packing Labor Other = $285.00 Packing Supplies Total Due = $2820.75 This literal what was written up just like this. We called Robert again and I was told to call Sam. Called Sam and we agreed on a Date of Feb 9th & 10th. Sam called me and asked if they could do packing on the 9th and moving & loading on the 11th. They had another move on the 10th. We said that would be fine. Before the movers got there, we had already packed about 85% of everything. The garage needed packed, the TV’s needed packed, only a few dishes needed packed. We had bar stools, dressers, mirrors, shoe boxes, and some odds and ends. When the movers got here on the 9th at 10:00 AM, there were 4 guys and 1 lady. The lady was the packer for dishes and breakables. The men were packers for bigger items. We had a pool table that had to be moved first. We removed the sliding glass door and we had a 40’ Gooseneck that we put up to the house to make it easy to move. My husband and the guys moved it and then put it in a container. They lied we had to Pay $4338.00! I have a lot more to say, but there is not enough space to tell you how bad this company is and how bad they lie to you! The workers were nice, but slower then we expected. Very sad that companies treat you like this. We have pictures to back up all of this! Look on their Facebook for the entire review. Do not hire this company!!Gentlemen Movers Response

The sole reason for the difference in the prices on the customer’s estimate and the final price of the actual move is that we are strictly time-based, and the time to conduct their move took longer than anticipated. Our estimates and the final prices of our actual invoices usually correlate to within a 90% accuracy. However, sometimes there are situations where we have estimates go awry due to any number of factors. When there are as many items to move as they had, and especially when there are a plethora of smaller items, it is difficult to accurately estimate with great precision exactly how much time it will take. Additionally, loading items in containers usually takes more time than loading them into a house because they must be stacked. While the customer’s estimate didn’t mention in writing that the drive time is included in pricing, our owner told them when he spoke with them during the estimate appointment that the drive time is a part of the job and is indeed charged. It is unreasonable to expect any moving company to comp time for travel time when they pay their workers for that time, especially when you live 40 minutes, one-way from their place of business. Nevertheless, we did comp part of the drive time out on the last day. Additionally, while we fully admit that we did indeed have a miscommunication with our packing girl as to who would bring which supplies, the customer was not ultimately charged for any of our packing materials that we didn't use, with the exception of the TV box which we accidentally charged them for and then promptly removed from the bill once we were notified that the box in question was already a part of their existing personal inventory. As to any items that were not moved or packed, by the client’s own admission, they asked the guys to stop before the move was completed as they began to worry about the price. We completely understand. However, that being the case, we shouldn't receive complaints that part of a move was left undone when the guys are dismissed before it is completed. Also, we were very sorry that one of the clients got hurt when we were on the job site, and I reiterated that to him when I saw him the day I went to collect the check for the job. However, he admitted that we were in no way at fault regarding the accident. He said it was simply just that: an accident. Perhaps the most puzzling thing to me about this review is that it was submitted to both our Meta Business page and the Better Business Bureau after I had an in-person meeting with the client. My time with them could not have been more pleasant or cordial. Other than the TV box mentioned earlier, they registered no complaints. Zero. At one point, I even had our owner on the line speaking to both of us via speaker phone as we tabulated the final bill. They never said, "Guys, I've got a real problem with some of the things that transpired during this move, and I especially have a problem with the final bill, and we need to talk about them." In fact, just the contrary. He was actually very complimentary of the guys and at one point, even said to me, "Those guys are some great packers. They really get after it." He mentioned nothing about them lollygagging, wasting time, or moving slowly. Ultimately, we are very sorry that the clients were not pleased with their experience. However, because the client reiterated to me that the guys were pleasant, concerned, and worked diligently while on the job, we feel the price is fair because we charge solely for time. Nothing else.
