Terrible company. They lack communication. My son started orthodontic treatment, then needed to switch insurance because my husband got a new job. They made a mistake on adding my child as dependent as secondary dental vs primary. It was corrected then, but did not communicate clearly to me what type of benefit we had, what they need from the orthodontists office. ******************* submitted it as a claim then kept getting rejected. ****************** kept submitting because they were never told, clearly, of what they needed to provide info on. I finally learned today that they needed Estimation of Benefits document/ AKA **** to show how much the previous/former primary dental insurance when he started treatment. This has been going on for 3+ months. Also the insurance coordinator called today and she was placed on hold for 40+ minutes, she talked and provided the info, then got put on hold to process it then she was hung up on.Delta Dental of Illinois Response

I am an office manager for a small H31353**4313937303032H practice and recently DD of IL has been rejecting perfectly correct claims thus delaying payments. I reached out to a rep who said I had to make some changes and include the member ID in box #** of the claim form, even though it's already in box #**. I checked with ******* who handles our electronic claims and they said they never heard of this before and it shouldn't be necessary nor is it possible to do. I've sent many emails to the original rep who said she was going to reach out to her department head but I haven't heard back. Meanwhile the rejected claims are piling up. This is clearly a tactic for DD of IL delaying paying claims. This is a disservice to H31353**4313937303032H providers and patients. We are an in-network provider and cover high contractual fees to be in network. Our fees have been increased by only $1 in 10 years! We are very displeased with DD of IL and considering going out of network where we'd get paid more and efficiently.Review from Karina R

This is a terrible company, terrible service. It is not worth the monthly payment. They are very deceiving; they make it so hard trying to make you give up calling them or claiming anything. Please avoid this vendor. Someone should investigate how legit they are.Delta Dental of Illinois Response

May 30, 2024 Customer Relations Advocate ********************** of ****************** Illinois, ********************************************************************** ***** Re: BBB Complaint Review ID ****** Dear Sir or Madam,On behalf of Delta Dental of Illinois, this letter serves as the response to the review submitted by a Delta Dental of Illinois member regarding their recent experience with our claims process. We first want to state that the members experience does not meet our standards. The first time the member called they were told that no claim was on file for their date of service on January 11, 2024. Two subsequent calls to customer service were made by the member and were followed by the same result. The member was advised to email the claim directly to our Customer Experience Representative (CER) for processing, however, the claim submitted was found to have an error with the subscribers date of birth, and as a result, it was not processed. The Customer Experience Representative had not documented the error that needed correction. The member was not made aware of the correction needed until they called again to inquire about their claim. The member was informed that after correcting this error, the claim could be resubmitted. Upon review, the claim was processed, and payment was sent to the member on May 29, 2024. During this period, the member called and was informed that the claim was in process. We apologize for the repeated calls to our *************************** and the delays in claims processing. We have addressed and coached the Customer Experience Representatives involved. Please know this is not the customer experience we desire and thank the member for their patience. We believe the above information responds to this complaint and concludes our handling of this matter. This is the worst of the worst when it comes to issuing payments. I was told by a supervisor ******** that they do not do stop payments until a payment has been out for 30 days and then the payment is only issued on a Tuesday and will go out on Wednesday as those are the only days payments are issued and sent out. I have waited almost three weeks on this payment and now I have to wait another week to have it sent out and another week or so to receive it again, so it will be about 5 weeks total before I get my payment. I will be canceling this plan with Delta Dental.....AND THEY DO NOT OFFER DIRECT DEPOSIT!Delta Dental of Illinois Response

May 30, 2024 Customer Relations Advocate ********************** of ****************** Illinois, ********************************************************************** ***** Re: BBB Complaint Review ID ****** Dear Sir or Madam,On behalf of Delta Dental of Illinois, this letter serves as the response to the review submitted by a Delta Dental of Illinois member regarding their payment. The member had expressed concerns regarding the delay in receiving a check due to an address change. It was communicated to the member that they are required to provide address changes or updates to their employer to correct their address on file. The member contacted customer service and requested to speak to a supervisor regarding an overnighted payment. However, the member was advised we could not issue an overnighted payment due to following company standard procedure, which stops the original payment and reissues a check on the following week. Further, standard procedure requires a check to be active for 30 days before a stop and reissue is done.To address this concern, the members address has been corrected and the process has been initiated to stop the original check and expedite the reissued check to the correct address. We have taken steps to ensure the member will receive the check promptly. We believe the above information responds to this complaint and concludes our handling of this matter. Terrible coverage. They barely pay a fraction of the costs. Example - I had two fillings replaced. The cost was about $498, which I had to pay upfront, out of pocket. Delta "reimbursed" $190 or so. I have had much better coverage with other companies and I did have to wait for a check in the mail. If you have a choice, go with another insurer.Delta Dental of Illinois Response

I signed up for Delta Dental of Illinois in January of 2022 and my rate total is $87.68 for myself and my son. In July 2023 I recently signed my mother up for the same dental package and her rate is about $50.10 and I asked why the rates had been changed and I was told that the company decided go up and there rates. However, when I asked about my rate the customer service representative told me that my rate was grandfathered in at $43.84 then I received a letter letting me know my rate a month will be $95.00 a month without a prior email or letter about the increase. I recently talked to a supervisor on today and I asked could I assess my application to let know if I was aware of the price increase on my monthly premium. My complaint is I have an issue about the price increased that the corporation decided to send me a letter a couple months ago. I am sure this is a tactic that this customer does to customers who have individual dental insuranceDelta Dental of Illinois Response

Re: BBB Review ID ****** Dear Sir or Madam,On behalf of Delta Dental of Illinois, this letter serves as the response to the review submitted by a Delta Dental of Illinois member.Delta Dental of Illinois assesses many factors, such as market trends and data, cost of dental services and usage of the insurance, in establishing rates. A key factor is spreading risk among individuals who purchase these plans. Spreading the risk generally results in better pricing for all. Individual members are pooled with other individual members. These factors are used to establish a risk calculation, which is used to develop rates. These same factors go into establishing renewal rates; however, inflation and the experience of those in the pool play a factor. Initial rates are based on statistical predictions and renewals include actual experience. Rates were increased at renewal because the initial predictions did not match the actual experience. Rates are not always increased at renewal; it all depends on the various data and analysis.Additionally, the Illinois ********** of ********* (***) regulates plans and rates for dental benefit programs in the state. Delta Dental of Illinois plans and rates are filed with the *** and the *** reviews and approves the risk calculations and rates for each plan to ensure they are reasonable and based on correct formulas. Renewal rates are also filed, reviewed, and approved by the ***.We believe the above information responds to this review and concludes our handling of this matter. A nightmare that began April 25, 2023 and is still going on now. I don't know what is worse the U.S. *********** that cannot deliver a certified piece of mailsince June 29, 2023 or the Delta Dental **************** folks at that 1 800 number. Does anyone work in the ********** building? Their CEO is compensated 1.7 million dollars [a nonprofit company]annually while poor people like ** are trying to get a claim processed in a timely manner. I now understand why Delta Dental of ** is getting bad reviews. The media needs to do an expose on this nightmare of a company.Delta Dental of Illinois Response

I went to my dentist 3 times after getting this coverage in January. Everywhere I look in my Benefits package, in or out of network benefits are the same and they never list any limits regarding what is "allowed" for any service. My first appointment was preventative and is listed as being covered 100% with no deductible and this is per their own site if you look up the codes. Interesting how I get the *** and I owe $110. They only allow $60 for an exam, $103 for full X-Rays, and $72 for a cleaning. I guess they think dentists are actually charity workers?? I don't think I've ever owed a balance after a routine preventative visit with insurance. I somehow owe over $305 for 2 fillings, while they only paid $234 because they expect fillings to cost less than $200 each, so they only allowed $318 out of the total $540 (again, none of these prices are listed anywhere on their site). Within a week, one of those fillings cracked, due to no fault of my own, per my dentist, and to fix that, I owe another $100+, while they paid less than $72 because they expected the evaluation to only cost $54 instead of $80 and only allowed $22 for the $35 Xray necessary to fully diagnose what needed to be done to fix it. Oh yeah - they don't cover the Novocain necessary to get a filling fixed, either. I guess you either have to suffer or tack it onto the rest of your ridiculous bill. I'm waiting on my former employer to send me the 2023 benefits guide because all I have is the one from 2022 they sent me when I hired on, which listed the co-pays for things like fillings as 20%, yet now their site and *** is claiming 80% and I paid for the higher plan with "better" coverage. I would never willingly choose this company again. I'd be just as well off buying some dental plan off a commercial, unless you happen to get your dentistry done in a back alley and then this plan may be worth something.Delta Dental of Illinois Response

April 14, 2023 Customer Relations Advocate ********************** of ****************** Illinois, ************************************************************** Illinois 60601-1795 Re: BBB Review ID: ****** Dear Sir or Madam,On behalf of Delta Dental of Illinois, this letter serves as the response to the consumer review regarding Delta Dental of Illinois. Thank you for the opportunity to respond. The following describes our handling of this matter. The member who left the review called our customer service team twice. The member first called on 1/10/2023 to check eligibility; however, our customer experience representative could not find the members information in our system as it was not yet entered. The member called again on 1/26/2023 to check eligibility and we were able to locate the member in our system. Our customer experience representative provided the member with their ID number but did not provide any benefit or plan details as the member did not request any. The members dentist submitted claims for treatment on 3/14/2023, 3/20/2023 and 3/30/2023. The member visited a non-network dentist. Non-network dentists do not have to follow our network guidelines or claims processing policies, and they do not agree to accept our network fees as payment in full. Since the member went out of network, their dentist can bill them the difference between their submitted fee and Delta Dentals allowed amount. Members can choose to go to any dentist; however, they will get the most benefit from visiting a Delta Dental PPO dentist. PPO dentists agree to accept our allowed fees as full payment. They are not able to balance bill members for the difference between their submitted fee and the allowed amount. Therefore, we encourage members to use a network dentist as more than 85% of our claims are paid to network dentists. We believe the above information responds to this review and concludes our handling of this matter. My dentist and oral surgeon submitted claims. They have not paid a *****. When I called and asked why, they said they have not received any claims. My dentist had tried 3 times already after verifying the address and ID #. I believe they do not want to pay...I will be canceling this fraud of a company as soon as my year is up.Delta Dental of Illinois Response

Re:BBB Review ID: ****** To Whom It May ********** behalf of Delta Dental of Illinois, this letter serves as the response to the consumer review regarding Delta Dental of Illinois. Thank you for the opportunity to respond. The following describes our handling of this matter. We received a claim for the reviewer on March 6, 2023, for a date of ******* of ******** 23, 2023. The claim was sent via fax, so it had to be manually entered by our **************** team. The claim was entered March 13, 2023, and is still processing. The reviewer contacted our **************** team on March 10 and March 13 to check to claims status, but the claim had not been entered yet at the time of her calls.
