Requested my services get disconnected in Feb 2024. Paid final bill later that month. They sent more charges in March and when I called the manager cleared them. In June 2024 they gave me more new charges. In July 2024 I was threatened with my account going to collections. Come August 2024 they said it was an error and the charges were from Feb 2024 and they refuse to clear $28 balance that was somehow created 4 months after I moved away.Review from Angel J

An elderly couple was disconnected - one of them on chronic oxygen. The couple receives total combined $1500 in retirement. **** would not reconnect until a $1800 bill was paid in full. The couple is getting billed a monthly bill of $800 for a double wide!! That alone is uncalled for. After paying $800 light bill, it would be leaving them only $700 for the remainder of the month - their rent is $800. Automatically in the negative outside of their control every month - the couple was trying their best to be able to live. The couple was never offered information of the ********** programs or the ******************* program. Per numerous managers over the phone, there was nothing that could be done - no payment plan agreements or any assistance given.Shameful.Review from Matthew M

Duke Energy is a monopoly for my area in ******* and absolutely couldnt care less about the service. A typical summer thunderstorm took out a local transformer. Because **** doesnt invest in infrastructure, that transformer took out 120 houses. **** says itll be tomorrow before we have electricity even though houses a block away are fine. The grid should be strong enough to divert power as needed. But NOT if Duke energy is maintaining the system. Must be nice to be a monopoly!!!Review from Nicole J

Duke Energy is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I have been transferred three times for something simple as reconnection of service. We had our lights temp suspended due to getting work on the house. Called to have the suspension removed and service reconnected, and they act as if I was speaking a foreign language. Let's not talk about the cost!! Just CRAZY!!!Review from CB P

Duke energy has cut a v shape in the top of a tree twice, due to them setting up a wire! Since then there was multiple calls that I myself, neighbors, and landlord have reported the fear of that tree being weakened and falling on our homes! On the 29th of July the tree split in half, one half on my home, leaving my neighbor house in threat! I filed a claim for Duke energy, which they denied stating it was a natural cause! That tree was fine before they started cutting in the top of that tree! That v shape that they cut not just once, but twice was not caused naturally! In fact topping a tree is not healthy, and will indeed cause damage to the tree itself in numerous ways!!! Duke energy needs to except responsibility for the damage they cost the tree, home, cars, and pets! It's unfair to renters and home owners to allow Duke energy to to perform on our property for whatever reason, and they fail to accept the damages they caused! Me and my child is pretty much homeless due to this, and it's very upsetting when I been calling about this issue for years now, and they refused to fix what was done!Review from Ralph P

Defective meter which **** refuses to address. Complaint #********. Constant inconsistent readings on smart meter:07/08/2024 1302pm 81559kwh 07/08/2024 1509pm 81692kwh 07/08/2024 1614pm 81593kwh 07/08/2024 1718pm 81597kwh AC was offthe whole time, the washer and dryer were not operating. **** refuses to do home evaluation for energy efficiency evaluation even after multiple request. **** claims they did one on the phone where they suggested energy efficient appliances which we have all updated appliances. **** also went as far as to blame the cell phone charges for the increased kwh usage. The public needs a neutral party to investigate as **** is evading answers to legitimate questions.Review from Cynthia D

My family and I were so impressed with the speed and accuracy of the Duke Energy crew in restoring power to ***************** in ********* last evening, 8/12/24. A major auto accident took out our power lines and pole around 6 pm and their crews repaired everything and restored all power by midnight! We are so grateful for excellent service and communication.Review from Keith P

I'm using solar panels from Sun Run. Each month Duke charges me ~$13 for their box as they get electricity from my solar panels. In July, hot and sunny month with AC set @ 78, they added 77% to my monthly charge. While there is no discount when there's a surplus of electricity generated most months, they had no problem adding the 77% charge when my house required more electricity. No wonder Duke pays such a nice dividend. Their policy: S**** the customer whenever possible.Review from Shaikim H

Here we are, yet again, for the 5th time this year. 5th time i have to move my animals to somewhere else. 5th time Ive had to empty out my fridge. 5th time i have to, essentially, reset my house. The reason? They simply do not care. Power is out. No information as to why. Different locations say different things on the outage maps as to the cause of the outage. I live in ******, ** and, unfortunately, are forced to use Duke energy. What is really an issue is that these outages are concentrated in the same exact area every time! That just so happens to be my area sadly. Ive called dominion about power lines that are hanging too low, clear debris on the power lines, and a couple other obvious issues (wires wrapped up in a tight ball on a power lines), insulator cables open and exposed, etc). I don't expect them to say theyd fix it but after this many outages its ridiculous. Honestly, if you are like me and have 1) animals 2) sensitive electronics and/or have alot of food in the fridge, I would stay away from ********** in ******, **. This is just in 2024 but in 2023 we had more outages that lasted longer. That was my first year in ** and just because of how long we went without power, I regretted the move. You may think that 3-4 days without power isn't that bad but when it is either >85F or below 40F, you tend to want your power on to protect you AND the things in your house. Duke is not reliable. Bettering infrastructure is clearly not a priority for them in areas that they do not care about. If i could switch, I would.
