I had this company come out to clean and inspect our gas burning fireplace. I researched ahead of making and appointment with them to determine the cost of the service. The average cost of cleaning and inspecting a gas fire place based on my research is about 75-175.00 dollars 2021. I was extremely disappointed that we were charged over $260. dollars for the service. Pretty much all that was done was the unit was vacuumed, the glass was cleaned and we were given a couple of lighters with the company name on it. I really don't care about getting a free lighter. I strongly believe that fair pricing speaks for itself about the integrity and character of a company. You may have been getting away with these outrageous charges for years but ultimately karma catches up with anyone who is maliciously unjust in their dealings in life. I am sure that I speak for all hard working American people when I say we just want businesses to be fair with their dealings. SHOCKEDBlackburns Chimney Sweeps, Inc. Response

Dear Customer, I am sorry you were disappointed with the gas service from Blackburns Chimney Services. Pricing is discussed prior to the appointment being scheduled. The price is also confirmed via two emails prior to the appointment as well as discussed when the technicians are at the home. Blackburns Chimney Services invests in company employees providing on going training and industry certifications. Blackburns Chimney has three National Fire Institute gas specialist in the Central Ohio area. Unfortunately, the scarce labor market for tradesmen has impacted pricing as technicians need a livable wage as inflation affects the cost of living. Blackburns Chimney is proud of our employees who work daily in all weather conditions and frequently at heights to assess chimney damage. Hopefully Blackburns Chimney can continue to hire skilled, experienced trades people. There is a cost of having trained people which affects the cost of services. Blackburns Chimney is not reputable! They did initial estimate in December, 2021 for repair and renovation for $5,600. Then did not follow up until April, 2022 until I called twice to get a repair date. When they finally came out to start repair, the guy came to my door to inform me that he could not repair it, but recommended (in fact insisted that my chimney was shot) complete tear down and rebuild fir$25,500.00!!! I canceled all, had them return the 50% deposit of $2,600 and the original estimate cost of $64, and sent them packing!I have since had another company come out and got a free estimate for around $5,000 for the cap repair and some brick replacement, crack repair and tuck pointing. When I told him about Blackburns saying it needed total tear down and rebuild for ******+, he told me that it definitely did not need to be rebuilt, and that if it did, he could do it for around $15,000 tops!Do not use Blackburns Chimney!Blackburns Chimney Sweeps, Inc. Dear Homeowner,I am sorry you had a negative experience with Blackburns Chimney. The technician who at your home gave an estimate for the chimney to be torn down for 2 courses & rebuilt, the chimney to be ground out & re-tuckpointed where needed, flashing to be repaired with flashseal, shoulders repaired, water repellent applied, and approximately ***** bricks to be cut out and replaced. Due to Ohios weather, estimates from the winter are placed on a wait list and customers are contacted in the spring for scheduling once Ohios weather has improved. This year, **** had a very wet spring and we were unable to schedule work as early as wed like due to frequent rain. When the ***** was going to start the work, upon further evaluation, the ***** determined that many more bricks had minor cracks The technician took pictures at the time of the January estimate and in evaluating the pictures, the minor repair seemed to be the appropriate repair. The technicians are trained to look thoroughly and I am sorry the technician did not see the minor cracks on the additional bricks. When bricks start to crack due to water damage and the freeze/thaw cycle, other bricks will later fail as the exposure damage is not evident on first inspection. The ***** did not want to replace 23 bricks this year and then have you be concerned in the next few years that ***** more bricks need replaced. The repeated replacing of bricks over time will cost more than rebuilding the chimney. The rebuild price takes into consideration the difficulty to access the chimney and needed scaffolding to do the repairs safely and the amount of bricks needed to rebuild the chimney. The ***** took many pictures of the chimney showing the numerous cracked bricks and lifted course of bricks. A chimney rebuild is going to be priced much higher than minor repairs. When comparing estimates, it is best to determine if the estimate is an apples to apples comparison with the same scope of work being completed. As you make your decision for the chimney, it is important to evaluate what is the best investment for your chimney, your anticipated length of time you plan to be in the home and the home resale value. I am glad you were able to get a repair estimate based on your preference for the chimney. Sincerely,*****************************
