In October 2021, I hired VGC to do some work on two of my houses. *****, the owner, talked me into paying for time and materials, in advance, on a weekly basis. He estimated that the job would be completed by Thanksgiving, which was about 4.5 weeks. I paid them in full every week, but the work was very slow, and his guys told me that they were being asked to do things they did not know how to do. For example, the person tiling my shower was a painter. The person sheetrocking was a plumber. I expressed concern, and ***** told me that he would complete the job and to "trust him." I did and paid the remaining money, bringing my total payments to a little over $26,000.In December, things slowed down (4 weeks past the deadline). For instance, one day 3 tiles were laid in my shower. They told me that since it was typically a 2-3 person job, that was reasonable. Keep in mind that there were two guys at my house all day, and other than very little sheetrock sanding, that's all that was done.I was very nervous and asked them to put in writing what we had agreed upon (I do have texts) and to provide me with the receipts for the materials I'd paid for. The next day, they texted me and told me they were walking off the job. I had paid in full, the work was not even halfway completed, and they were leaving.I am saddened by this turn of events. VGC did work for me before, and although they were slow, they did a good job. But this time, his workers told me that they had started a large commercial job a week before they walked off my job, and ***** was worried because they would be fined $500 for each missed deadline. I suppose he choose to complete that job instead of mine, regardless of the fact that I gave him my life savings for my project. I am left with no real way to go forward and a house that is unlivable. (He knew my son was here waiting to move in.) He told me he wanted to go after large jobs and I guess he sacrificed my job to get what he wanted.
