Brought ATV in for service. Owner called to discuss work being done and asked about changing fluids. Received another call stating more work needed to be done and was found by removing parts that I didnt give permission to remove previously. Went to retrieve said equipment after work was complete and had to bring to any shop for service due to the fact it wasnt running correctly

I dropped my bike off 5/7/22 due to not running off and on for over a year. The owner stated he would evaluate the bike. He then called me days later stating i need new valves and rods due to being bent. He quoted me $1,000 to fix it and i went a few days later and left deposit of $500. It took over a month for the bike to be worked on because he stated his mechanic went on vacation to ****** with no set date to returned. When i finally got called that the bike was ready, he changed out my clutch and stator that he said were bad and had me pay an additional $450 without my permission to do so. The owner then drove up on my bike and tons of smoke coming out the back. He then stated he would keep the bike to figure out the problem but had to wait for mechanic to return from a second trip to ******. I waited almost 3 weeks to be told the rings needed replacement and would be another $230. I then picked up my bike another week later and asked him if the bike was safe to drive and functioning right. The owner said the carburetor needed a jet kit for $250 but it was still safe to ride. I drove home and bike broke down. The owner became upset and stated all problems were from prior to being brought to him. I took bike back to shop and he said he would see if his mechanic did anything wrong. He called me and stated it was a loose solenoid wire. He then quoted me Over $1000 now to crimp wire tighter, install jet kit, and replace (NOW) fried rectifier. I asked for bike back and he yelled at me and stated he would not give the bike back unless i paid an additional $250 for crimping wire and looking for issues. I reminded him he stated for me to bring the bike back and he would see what could have happened but did not say he would charge me hourly as he looked for the problem which caused me to walk home after he told me bike was safe to drive. Owner then began to yell at me saying i'm another bad customer 8/10/22. There was more to the arguments but no room left in review.

while some of this statement is true it is missing many details. Cust dropped off bike like he said. When he dropped it with me he stated that he had the bike worked on at multiple places and named off some of the work they had performed ( ignition coils, carbs rebuilt, stator replaced etc.etc.) Before he left, I tried to start it and let him know at that time that it sounded like the engine had no compression but I would let the mechanic evaluate it and let him know what we found. I called him after evaluation and let him know that it the repair would require removal of the engine and replacement of at least 2 valves and possibly more to restore compression in engine $1200+ but until I removed the engine and disassembled it, we couldn't be sure of all it needed at that time. After removal and teardown of engine we had a conversation and I told him it needed additional work and he gave the approval to do what it took to get it running. The additional ($450approved by cust) work we did at that time was remove the cylinders and honed them and cleaned the pistons which had carbon build ** in the ring lands. We also found the stator (which the customer said he had just replaced) had been put in backwards, the coils and wires had shorted out due to this. When my mechanic was reinstalling the engine I suggested we check the clutch (found it was bad) and replaced it as well. My mechanic installed the engine and informed me that it was "ready to go". ****************** came to get the bike and when I brought it out front noticed it was "smoking from the exhaust" I checked it and rode it around the block and agreed, it was not ok. I was really embarrassed and apologized that the mechanic had not done a thorough testing after completion of his work. Unfortunately my mechanic had left for Vacation and would need to look at it when he got back (which took longer than expected due to unforeseen circumstances). When my mechanic returned he repaired it ($1000 labor that I covered) and ****************** paid for the piston rings that we had not replaced when we had the engine apart. He also paid for a battery (because his would not hold a charge). I had advised ****************** that his carbs had not been tuned or jetted properly when he had them repaired but he declined that work. I made sure that my mechanic drove the bike and that it was not smoking. ***************** picked up his bike and attempted to drive it home and had problems, he called me and was upset (which I understand) I tried to explain to ****************** that I would need to get the bike back to the shop evaluate and repair and that if it was something that was our responsibilty we would take care of the **** and the towing charges. He was still upset and so I agreed because of the problem we had that I would pay for the tow fee. He had a relative bring the bike and I paid him with cash out of my pocket. At that time, he spoke to my mechanic and accused him of doing poor work and because of him that he almost had an accident. At that time I reitterated that we did not know what was wrong and would have to look at the bike and determine the problem. When evaluating the bike we found 3 Items that needed attention 1) The immediate issue. Wiring to the ignition coils (which had been previously installed by ******************) was not done properly and the bike was only running on one cylinder 2) The carbs needed to be removed cleaned and rejetted (which we had already advised the *********** The voltage regulator had overheated and failed (Chinese part installed by ******************) that could have caused other major issues. I sent ***************** an estimate which he declined the repairs. When ****************** said he was going to pick up the bike without doing the repairs he was surprised that I would charge him for repairs needed. I stood my ground and told him that I had already paid for towing services that I shouldn't have and that I would not work on his bike for free to fix issues caused by previous repairs. We were both upset and both of us raised our voices. I am sorry for that but and regret that it came to that. In closing I would like to say that working on 20+ year old bikes that have been sitting for years (license plates are from 2014) compounded by having work done previously that has been done improperly has it's challenges and that customers may have unrealistic expectations. We truly try to do what is right but may have a different perception that the customer.
