Government Action: BBB reports on known government actions involving business’ marketplace conduct::
The People of the State of California v. Service Corporation International, Et AL.

The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved.  We are providing a summary of the government's allegations, which have not yet been proven.

On April 30, 2024, A Stipulated Final Judgment and Permanent Injunction was entered for Service Corporation International (SCI) settled with Rob Bonta, Attorney General of the State of California; Brooke Jenkins, District Attorney of the City and County of San Francisco; Pamela Y. Price, District Attorney of Alameda County; and Lori E. Frugoli, District Attorney of the County of Marin settled with Service Corporation International (SCI).

The State of California took the position that the sale and marketing by Neptunes of their Travel and Relocation Protection Plan memberships were not in compliance with the laws of California and such prohibited sales were sales of pre-need funeral services and were subject to California's pre-need funeral and other laws, including, but not limited to, trusting requirements.  The Neptunes denied wrongdoing or liability but agreed to resolve the allegations with a settlement paying an aggregate of $23,000,000 and report on compliance with the terms in the judgment.  This matter is still pending.
