At one point in time I remember I had stopped taking my first dog here for daycare/boarding, but couldn't remember exactly why once we got our new very energetic puppy, and decided it would be good for them. The 2 had been boarded with them just 5 weeks ago over the weekend while we went out of town, once they returned home they were both exhausted for 3 days afterwards, and seemed very happy to be home on the couch. We just figured they ran a lot, no big deal. After my fiance was recently hospitalized and had to undergo emergency surgery, I decided to board them to help w/ the stress of juggling them and being there for him. They were nice enough to let me drop them off Sunday night, which is normally a pick up only hour, I was very appreciative. I called on Tuesday to check if they were eating and how my 5 yr old was doing, specifically with his back, as he has had some disc issues in the past .They said, "there's no notes, so they're doing great!" Wednesday, I even came by to drop off some more wet food for them. I pick them up on Thursday morning, as we're walking to the car, my 5 yr old's hips are visibly sagging and hind legs are struggling to walk. I pick him up and put him in the car where he immediately defecated (very unlike him), then I got him out to finish, he staggers over to the rock area to pee, which took a solid minute and half/2 mins like he had not been out for 12+hrs. I rushed back in, where the owner was waiting(first time I've ever seen her there) and asked if anybody had noticed this, the guy that brought them out said yeah I did just kind of notice it - only to be interrupted by the owner and other desk guy stating that it's simply his paw pads from playing in the rocks for too long, and they all backed up that story. I immediately called his vet and chiropractor, neither could get him in until next day, so I carried him in the house and then had to go back to hospital to discharge to my fiance. Come back home, carry him outside, he takes 2 steps and can't walk anymore. I rushed him to the vet hoping somebody could take him in, the chiropractor was nice enough to at least look at him inbetween appointments, she explained he had a ruptured disc, and losing superficial feeling in hind legs and he needs surgery/treatment ASAP. I was able to rush him to another vet across town to get him laser treatment, she also confirmed he had lost superficial feeling, he needs surgery at Uof I , she called them and it would be $5,000-$7,000, which I could not afford. When I called Paradise after the vet, just to see when he could have possibly gotten hurt (assuming from playing too hard), the owner was very aggressive and insisted that nothing could have possibly happened, she belittled the vet that saw him and the chiropractor that he sees, stating that she made his condition worse. She claimed that he's probably "just inflamed and needs rest" that he was "on his feet for too long" and compared it all to her own back/disc issues. She then began to belittle me b/c I could not afford the surgery, and my mom for the fact that she couldn't just give me the money. By Saturday morning he was in so much pain and not getting any better from our laser/steroids/pain killer treatment, that I had to put him down. Devastated, I started receiving messages from other people who had issues and past employees that witnessed abuse and neglect, I asked for anybody w/ similar experiences to come forward. Similar to other people, the owner started messaging me on ********, harassing me and threatening to sue. There was a simple way to deescalate this situation, but instead of being considerate and helpful, the owner was combative, defensive and threatening, I'm so disgusted by this treatment, and very concerned for what my dog had gone through at this establishment. I do not recommend anybody trust these people to look after their pride and joy.
