I received a bill for almost $15,000 in the mail today. My Explanation of Benefits (EOB) states my responsibility is a little over $2,600. I called the Billing Office and was told I owe the almost $15,000 and it was my responsibility to prove to them that I don't. Faxing them my EOB was not sufficient proof. I needed to contact my insurance company and speak with them and the insurance company would need to send them proof. This is ridiculous and, in my opinion, unethical. They are trying to collect the difference between what they charged and what the insurance company paid and not honoring their contractual agreement with my insurance company.

My mom is ******** *************, ********, and has ********** ***** ******* to name a few of her medical conditions. She was transported by ambulance to Atrium for a mental evaluation due to a mental health crisis on Saturday, 11/20/2021. Atrium has all her medical records on file, including documentation of her mental health issues for which she has received treatment there numerous times. After being at the facility for 2-3 hours, the doctor discharged her on her own accord. Mind you, she was transported to the hospital with only a night gown on, no underwear, socks or shoes and no means to get home. They allowed her to leave the hospital, in the evening as the temperature was dropping, walking in her condition and her state of dress. She had no purse, no money, or keys to get to or into her apartment. This complaint is being filed in utter disgust at the attending physician and charge nurse for gross negligence and lack of care. I was told at the time of her being picked up by ambulance that because she would be going for psych evaluation, I would not be permitted to go there and someone would call me with an update of her situation. Although, they should have had my contact info on file at Atrium, I gave the paramedic my name and number and watched him enter the information in the system so that I could be called concerning her. No one called me and when I spoke to the charge nurse, I was informed that they welcome family members to call and/or come to speak with them and fill them in regarding the patient's situation. BUT I WAS NOT TOLD THAT AT THE TIME of her transport there. Furthermore, NO ONE CALLED ME. I think it is a travesty of care that a situation like this was allowed to occur, especially from a facility such as Atrium and the medical personnel who take an oath to devote themselves to the welfare of those committed to their care and to treat the ill to the best of their ability. If I could leave less than 1 star in this review I would.
