Would really like to give more stars because our pool rep- Patrick- was great. It is the workmanship and warranty that failed. Work was completed during construction build and final product is ok- grout was left all over tile that we asked to have cleaned and it wasn’t so we had to do it ourselves; beauty strip has gaps all around the edge that cannot be repaired without completely redoing the coping; metal cage has framing twisted and has gapping that was attempted to repair but incomplete; hole in screen that has had a warranty request order in for about 3 months now still not resolved; and drain on deck does not actually drain. We had to scope and repair this ourselves because water was backing up and flooding the deck. Additionally, pool was not built entirely to our specifications that resulted in what should have been a small refund that we never received. The pool finish- there are actually deep footlrints in the gunnite floor but we are done with requests at this point as there is no use in filing a warranty claim. They go unanswered. It is a shame- we love our pool but we would love it more ig it was right.Review from MO W

I would have never thought that American pools & spa conduct themselves in such a manner NOT to adhere to policy and warranty needs as the customer whom the warranty from my builders selected to select as the contractors for homeowners in which purchased products. I have been having problems and have submitted work orders with my warranty with my community builders that is required due to i have a (3) year warranty under contract with American pools & spa to fulfill their obligations when the customer had issues and concerns of problems with their products i.e.. heater pump, cracks in cement , replacement parts etc... With my experience in their warranty department (administrative) some of their personnel are professional and will try to assist you but when it comes to actually coming out to do repairs and having sub-contractors come out to look into the problem you will be dissatisfied with the service. I have received a call that they were coming out and still have not seen them. Very unprofessional and do NOT care about their customer needs. UNSAT rating score.Review from Willa W

I am amazed at the consistencies I see in the reviews listed on the BBB compared to my experiences with American Pools & Spa. I have and continue to experience the same issues listed by the reviewers below. American has used the COVID-19 employees don't want to work to justify delays and to explain away poor workmanship. They seem to be competing for sub-contractors but told us earlier in the build that once we got to the final finishing stages, we would be working with their employees and our delay concerns would go away. Didn't happen. Not only did we continue to experience delays the quality got shotty. Some of the issues we have faced include: 1) materials included in the design process and shown on the drawings were not installed and we were later told that they were not ordered, 2) sinking pavers creating trip and fall hazards and puddling water on deck, 3) incorrect pool equipment installed because upgrades selected and paid for were not ordered until the pool fill was complete. Now we have a chlorine and a salt system to treat the pool, one of which we did not need, but ended up paying for both in the build cost, 4) pool surface was never finished properly and looks awful. Gray and horribly discolored areas throughout the pool surface being blamed on our pool maintenance company who had the water chemistry on point until American emptied the pool to refinish the surface but only cleared one large black spot and a water line caused by their workers. They left the remaining areas untouched and did not refinish the complete pool Since the refill we and the pool maintenance company have followed Americans' instructions on testing and water chemistry but because they do not want to fix their original mistake made on the pool surface they are blaming us and the pool maintenance. This $70k and six month old purchase continues to be a nightmare because American still won't honor their words in their advertising, their workmanship, or their customer care policies and provide us with the pool we originally designed and paid for. 5) Their workers left debris all over throughout the build process, destroyed large areas in my and my neighbors grass after wasting acid on it, but the field supervisors are quick to suggest you refer a neighbor so you can get $400 if the referral ends up in a contract to build a pool. What happened to these words from the Thank You Letter we received when we signed the contract with American? I really do not want to leave this review. My experience with this company started out good. However, to say we are unsatisfied with their work would be a severe understatement. Structurally, our pool appears to be fine, although based on my current experiences, I question what surprises are in store for us, down the road. To me, this project looks like they felt like they did "just enough", and we would take care of the remaining items. Here's some examples: 1.) Our pool and spa both have this blue powder all over the place. I don't know what it is. I have asked about it, and gotten no response. Some of it has gone away - perhaps into the plumbing? I don't know, I am not a pool expert. 2.) Our concrete pad already has an area that is chipping off. After a month. Sure, things happen. I get it. But instead of ignoring my inquiries, just please come fix the work that we paid you to do. 3.) Perhaps most frustrating is the way they left our pool tiles. There is grout everywhere. The grout lines look like somebody did them while half asleep. It looks tacky, and I think it's really unacceptable. 4.) When they placed our fence, they put it in the wrong location. Okay, things happen. After a while, they did come back and fix it. I give them credit for that. But it would have been a nice gesture to offer to repair the grass from where the fence was initially. If the other issues weren't ongoing, I would probably just forget about this. But here we are. 5.) Back to our concrete pad - there are several low areas where water just collects. Eventually it goes away, and I understand there will be isolated instances where things like this happen. But water sitting repeatedly in the same area can't be a good thing. I'm pretty handy around the house, and I understand things happen. But there is really no excuse for this. I am a web developer, and this would be the equivalent of me building a site that was functional, but looked like it was built in the early 1990's. I hope I am tasked with updating this review after they make this pool area look amazing, just like the photos they push on their social media channels. There's a reason my pool isn't featured in their social media posts. Because it's sloppy. If I produced this kind of work, I would expect to be peppered with criticisms like this, too.American Pools & Spas Inc Response

I certainly hope that follow up will happen. Based on the track record to date, I'm doubtful it will. My builder once again made your company aware of these issues on Wednesday. The fact that I still haven't heard from anybody doesn't bode well. This is not my preferred way to handle these matters, but when you ignore a customer for this length of time, this is the result.Customer Response

Just thought I would give an update. We actually have a meeting today that I hope will be productive. If it's not, then I will take additional steps. But just a few things we have noticed:
1.) This is crazy, but the two pillars they built on opposite sides of our pool aren't even the same size! I wish I was making this up.
2.) We already have cracked tiles throughout the project, after only several months.
3.) Concrete is also chipping.
The list goes on and on, and it's too much to post here. There's one gentleman that I think is trying to help us. I am hopeful. Honestly, avoid this company. The pictures posted on social media and their website don't resemble their work. When you can't even appear to use a measuring tape, that seems like a red flag.American Pools & Spas Inc Response

Almost a year into construction of our pool with this company, lack in communication and sets false expectations. poor communication, lack of initiative to follow up on outstanding items for the exception when the Money is due. I paid in full for my contract and yet still in the final phases. they keep promising they'll be here on certain dates only for weeks even a whole month with no one showing to the worksite. when payments were do they were here the very next day without hesitation to pick up the check thru the phases, now that they have collected final payment without closing on the outstanding items there is absolutely no engagement at all. Never paid them in full until your project is completed. I've been on final stages for the last two months, my project began in 2020.American Pools & Spas Inc Response

The customers pool was completed and filled with water on 7/1/21. There are a couple of outstanding items that do not prevent the customer from using and enjoying the pool. We have scheduled the work to be completed and it will be done soon. We can assure the customer will be 100% satisfied that he has received the product he paid for. Our customers happiness is of the upmost importance to us and while recent circumstances have caused delays in our build time, we continue to work diligently to deliver a quality product in a timely manner.Review from Danielle T

Horrible company! We signed our contract and gave deposit 8/2020. Took until 1/2021 to get permits, it is now 8/2021 and our pool is still not done!!! Nothing but excuses! In January we were told 15 weeks. 15 weeks is here and gone. Stop using COVID as an excuse!American Pools & Spas Inc Response

We understand the customers frustration with the length of time it has taken to construct their swimming pool. Regrettably, there have been numerous causes for delay over the past year which have been out of our control. We are working diligently to complete the final stages as expeditiously as possible and look forward to its completion very soon.Customer Response

Unfortunately your not trying hard enough since this week yet again we are promised our pool will be done and here it is Wednesday and no one has been here for 2 days! This is unexceptional and customers need to know this is how your company works before spending hard earned money on a pool that is never getting finished!American Pools & Spas Inc Response

Unfortunately, while our best efforts have gotten us a step closer, we build pools utilizing the talents of human beings. The individual whose talents are best suited to the next step in construction could not keep the schedule today because his wife went into labor.
We have arranged for another qualified person to complete the work with only a few days delay. We are, literally doing everything in our power to complete the project and will continue to do so until it is, and the customer is satisfied with the results.
Once again, we apologize for the disappointment. We are hopeful there will be no further delays.Customer Response

If this was May/June maybe I could understand some delays. But it is September and weeks go by where not one person comes and if they do it is a 5 min stop. It's funny how stories keep changing, we were told this morning the electricians granddaughter was born, not daughter, Big difference! The work was supposed to be done on Tuesday and Wednesday and no one showed. I think customers need to know the truth before making a huge investment like we have done!
