BUYER BEWARE!!! DO NOT USE THIS VENDOR!

Ocala Capet & Tile installed old, severely defective, brittle, discontinued Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring in my two-story 3300 sq ft home. My flooring is literally peeling and cracking underfoot in my 2-story home. My kitchen floor remains torn up to this day, with quarter-round lying lose and Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring lose and damaged going on 7 months now.

Do not even consider using this vendor for a moment. You will be very sorry. The president of the company personally came out to my residence, bringing samples, and recommended the product he then had installed, saying it would definitely work. His best installers then installed it in 2019.

My contract was signed in November 2018 and the waterproof, life-time guaranteed product started seriously deteriorating both upstairs and down in October 2020, and it is now November 2021.

Ocala Carpet and Tile has made 10 visits to my home for assessment and repairs. During the final repair, this past May installers ended up throwing up their hands and walking away in frustration. They said they "had never seen anything like it." The product was brittle and breaking in their hands. And, they said there was no more product available. The product used to make prior repairs is now also deteriorating as I write this. Luxury Vinyl Planking has a lifetime guarantee. Ocala Carpet and Tile is not honoring it.

The president, to my surprise, later admitted the product he had installed had been stored in his hot warehouse and had been discontinued. He also stated he had not purchased it from the manufacturer and expressed concern that the manufacturer would not cover the cost of the material. He is now refusing to stand behind his work whatsoever. His installers have asked him several times to do the right thing and replace my floor, but he refuses.

As a senior in Marion County, this company has been and is still taking horrible advantage of me. I fear without reporting this event it will most certainly happen to others. I have had many contractors doing work in my home since I purchased it in 2013 and Ocala Carpet and Tile is by far the most corrupt and deceitful.

Do not consider this business in any way to provide a reliable product or stand behind their work.

As an authorized factory retailer we installed a 1st quality vinyl plank on the first floor of a local residence in December of 2018 based on a contract signed by the homeowner in November. The product was shipped directly from the manufacturer's warehouse in Georgia to our warehouse in Ocala in November. In April, 2019 we installed the same product on the customer's second floor and in September, 2019 we installed the same product in the laundry and bathroom on the first floor. Almost two years later, in October, 2020, the homeowner reported a problem with the flooring in the master bath area. We responded to her call and found that the floor was pinched in that area and we made the necessary repairs at no cost to the homeowner, even though we were beyond the 1 year labor warranty. In February, 2021, the homeowner reported a plank in the kitchen with one edge curling. We responded and replaced that plank, again at no cost to the homeowner. Subsequent to the repair, the homeowner reported that a plank next to the one we had replaced in the kitchen was showing a lifted corner. We responded but the installers were unable to complete the repair using spare planks stored at the job. The homeowner then took the position that all the flooring was defective, or 2nd quality. As an authorized factory retailer for this vinyl plank product, we had our regional sales representative come to the customer's home and inspect the product and the installation. He checked the levels on the floor and visually inspected the job. He concluded that the vinyl plank was not lying flat on the wood subfloor in all areas due to either an uneven subfloor or the flooring binding against the perimeter walls due to inadequate expansion gaps at the time of installation. Both of these factors would be installation errors if the floors were uneven at the time of installation. I know however, that our installers spent time and materials to sand and level out the wooden subfloor in several areas of the house before installing the vinyl plank and the floor performed beautifully for two years. Since this inspection was not conclusive, the homeowner requested that the manufacturer send out a certified flooring inspector to evaluate the floor. This inspection was completed at the manufacturer's expense and the inspector found that there were "no manufacturing related concerns." He determined that the issues with the flooring were being caused by an "uneven subfloor." However, he was unable to ascertain whether the installers failed to initially level the subfloors, or whether moisture and foundation movement since the installation caused the subfloor to become uneven. The home is built on a sloping lot over a crawl space with wood framing. Moisture from rainwater running under the house over time could cause the subfloor to swell and become uneven. The factory inspector was not tasked with evaluating at what point the subfloor may have become uneven. He simply found that the subfloor was not currently within the required installation specifications of the manufacturer and therefore was a causative factor. The homeowner was not satisfied that the factory inspection did not find a manufacturing defect in the product and demanded that all of the flooring be replaced using only the original installation crew. The product used initially in this installation is still being manufactured but with an added acoustical closed cell pad on the back. I am not convinced that the problem is with the product since both inspections so far have revealed problems with an uneven subfloor and if there were inherent problems with the product, it would not still be on the market. Just to verify my position, we recently sent samples of the product to a flooring industry professional testing laboratory in Georgia at our expense to verify that the product meets industry standards for dimensional stability and it passed. I then scheduled a date and time for a certified flooring inspector to conduct, at my expense, a thorough examination of the installation and the flooring for last week, but at the last minute the homeowner cancelled the inspection. I have encouraged the homeowner on more than one occasion to engage a certified floor inspector on their own to pinpoint the problem and recommend a course of correction. I have also expressed more than once that until we are able to pin down the cause, or causes, for the failure of this floor, it makes no sense to proceed with making a correction. We would all like to reach a resolution that will ensure a long lasting floor for this homeowner.

~ OC&T has never shown proof "1st quality vinyl planking on the first floor", or on any floor. Planking boxes had no indication of manufacturer or product description from website - indication of 2nd's. I have all phone calls/texts where OC&T admits not buying flooring directly from manufacturer; expressing concern "they" would not pay for if he had not purchase directly from them. He also alarmingly stated manufacturer had sold the company, and the product installed was discontinued.

No pinching found, Installers confirm no installation issues. If flooring pinched, it would have gone through the open floor plan to Master Bedroom & Front Office. Installers confirm they repaired the many defects at no cost and respect for the Homeowner.

~ April 7, 2021, Kitchen again cracking, splitting, peeling away from backing into Dining Room. I expressed concern to OC&T "we need to find a real solution instead of all these continual patch jobs on a discontinued product."
~ April 8, 2021 Master Toilet Area, Kitchen and Dining Room cracking, splitting, peeling sent pics to president OC&T
~ April 15, 2021 Master Toilet Area and Kitchen assessed; 2nd floor not assessed despite problems
~ May 6, 2021 President Ocala Carpet and Tile, Inc. says "factory rep"??? can be here week of 17th.
~ May 20, 2021 President OC&T. and "factory rep" came to house to assess flooring, inspect torn-up Kitchen. When I asked "factory rep" if he was going to inspect 2nd floor as I now had problems in Drawing Room & Art Room. He said, "no."
After meeting unprofessional-looking "factory rep", I asked OC&T president who the man was? Inc. He admitted "He is the rep that sold us the plank." When asked, "Who will be coming by next, someone from the mill?" President OC&T did not answer.
~ May 21, 2021 After extensive failures/repairs and no more material, I texted the president OC&T and requested flooring be torn out and replaced throughout as it runs throughout the entire house and starting to fail on the 2nd floor which they hadn't even looked at.
~ May 29, 2021 No responses from OC&T since May 20, 2021 after admitting the man inspecting my floor was not a Mill Rep. I sent a text requesting OC&T get an "actual impartial Mill Rep" to come evaluate the floor. I asked to schedule it within 2 weeks.
~ June 3, 2021 (2-wks more silence) Texted OC&T inquiring where we stood with Mill Rep coming? President OC&T texted, "I requested an inspection. You will be dealing directly with the Mill from here."
~June 21, 2021 Man from Lake City, FL inspected floor without OC&T present. He took pics, used moisture meter, level, verified dry 20 mil. moisture barrier under installed waterproof flooring, removing floor grates. Report never submitted to me, or Installers.
It goes against facts when OC&T says "the inspector found that there were no manufacturing-related concerns" with peeling planking, cracks, broken head & side joints throughout inspection areas. OC&T stated "uneven subfloor." No proof was presented to anyone myself or Installers. OC&T; Installers; "inspectors" all went on hands & knees with levels eliminating an "uneven subfloor" on all prior visits (see above dates.) OC&T also had 8' x 15' of existing floor torn out to expose ground under house. Found it both level and dry.
NOTE: Grouted tile flooring without moisture barrier abuts OC&T's failing planking. It has not cracked or split due to subfloor issues.
House sits high and dry on a FL code level berm with a 3' - 4' crawl space, twenty-four 16" x 7" air vents, and two 4'x4' vents. It does not sit on a "sloping lot". Rainwater runs into an enclosed French Drain well away from the berm.
Nov. 12, 2021 ~ President of Ocala Carpet and Tile, Inc. proposed yet a 3rd flooring x 4' vents. It does not in any way sit on a "sloping lot" as president of Ocala Carpet and Tile, inc. inaccurately states as he has done on so many of the other above issues. Rainwater runs into a French Drain around the berm the house sits on approximately ............
Nov. 12, 2021 ~ OC&T proposed 3rd flooring inspection. His best" Installers, I, others were here. OC&T was a "no show."
