Transaction Aug 24, 2022 Motorcycle in for out of province safety inspection. Shop ************* telling us more work needed to be done because a part was missing and charged us an extra $150 for this service and $26.82 for shop supplies plus taxes. The part they said should be there was an indicator tab that some bikes have attached to the rear brake arm. This bike was not manufactured with the tab but like many other bikes it has the indicator marks on the brake drum and uses the center line in the arm as the indicator instead of a tab. The service manual for this bike specifies this and this type of system is very common. (************) I spoke with them about this and they looked up the parts schematic for this bike and agreed this bike never did have a tab but they still refused to refund us for this unnecessary extra charge. Instead they made excuses that they needed a break measurement however they had told us that if the bike had a wear indicator (which it does) then they could determine the brake wear without taking the tire off. I pointed out the contradiction in what they said but they absolutely refused to refund the extra charge for the unwarranted work they did. This shop was completely unethical in they way they dealt with this service. *********************************************************************** There is no possible way a mechanic did not know how to use the wear indicator on this bike. This situation of extra unwarranted charges is one aspect of the trouble we had with this shop on this inspection. The other problem was this shop said a part was worn out and was a safety issue when it actually wasn't. I dealt with this through *** on Aug 31, 22 where *** inspected the bike and agreed the bike should not have been failed and overturned the shops report and passed the bike on the inspection. This shop should be ashamed of themselves, what they are doing is not right or ethical. ***************************************************
