Since the work began on June 9, 2025 the project has been nothing but problems including safety concerns, cut corners, and unprofessional conduct.

On the first day of work, the crew cut through two electrical wires. We were not notified until 5:00 PM when they were on their way out, although we were informed that the incident occurred around 1:00 PM. At that time we were informed that they thought the breaker would have tripped, although it did. They had already sealed the live wires into the temporary water proofing without making sure it was safe or consulting an electrician.

When I asked for the wires to be properly capped, I was told that it wasn't necessary. After continued pressure, they agreed to cap the wires *** *** ** ** ***** *** ******* *** ***** ******** ************. They explained that they had someone on their team that "worked with electrical a lot" that they would send to come and fix the wires. They only agreed to bring in a licensed electrician after I had explicitly asked for documentation on what had happened and how it would be resolved. This left me concerned about fire risk, legality, future liability, and what other corners were cut.

The workmanship throughout the job was poor:
    - The downspout was installed in the wrong place and in a different spot than discussed is at high risk of being clogged - based on the rain it is also not functioning as it should
    - The soffit was damaged and the framing installed around the window and door is unfinished and damaged
    - The drywall and ceiling were cut into in 11 or more places on the inside
    - Trash was left on the roof and rusty nails were found scattered in the yard

Despite raising these concerns and involving the service manager early in the process and escalating to the operations manager after the work was "finished" there is still no meaningful resolution that has been proposed and they have been very reactive throughout the process in terms of making sure things were addressed.

I participated in the EEAP program for insulation installed in my attic and basement by Above All in 2023, I paid $**** to have my existing cellulose attic insulation removed and replaced. I am having a problem with the work that was done on my roof and in my attic.

I have water coming in my attic and soaking my new insulation in places where they installed the roof ridge vents and where they left soffit chutes in weird places that apparently should have been removed. They installed the roof ridge vents very close to the gutters rather than near the ridge, the bathroom vent exhaust melts all the snow right in the gutter and creates an ice dam. They told us they wouldn't need to cut an access hole but they cut one when they started the job. I'm not sure why the access hole was needed we had a gable and the workers constantly walked through my house to access the attic anyways. For months they told us they would be special ordering a gable vent for us that was included in the job and then when the attic and basement jobs were done, I was told I would have to pay $1000 for a gable vent install.

The problem started this winter when the weather warmed up and we noticed rusty water leaking down the side of my house coming from the soffits. So, I showed the pictures to Marvin from Above All and he said it was a problem with my gutters and roof drip edge. I went into my attic to see the damage and saw that all of the new insulation in the back end of my home, near the newly installed vents, was soaked. I told Marvin and he reluctantly agreed to come look at my roof and see what was going on, he brought a drone here and did not go in my attic to inspect the vent installs. Weeks later, Marvin showed me drone pictures of some screw holes in my gutters and a piece of lifted fascia by the gutters and my stack vent on the other side of my roof apparently had unappealing shingles around it. But I believe this problem with my gutters became a problem because of the roof ridge vents being installed in that low area of the roof and there seems to be gaps in the flashing around the vents and screws in the bottom of both vent flashings. I took some pictures in the attic and it seems also like there is a slit under the vent and light is coming through from outside where water could have also entered into our attic. Also, the whole inner roof was wet above one vent so my husband was wondering if they even sealed the shingles properly with tar paper because the shingles they put back in place looked awful compared to the before picture of my roof and when the roof is wet it looks misshapen where the ladder stabilizers were placed.

I let Marvin know that the problem is possibly coming from the vents which is a higher area of the roof than the gutters, and that it was the exact area that was worked on by his team, I asked him to get a second opinion and still no response. My roof is 4 years old and I didn't have this problem last year, so it is very concerning that we just paid $**** for insulation that is now ruined from being soaked, not to mention what else could be damaged because of this. I am getting sparse answers from Marvin and he sways me in different directions like he's implying that I need to pay for different exploratory work to fix the problem, but there hasn't even been a real inspection done on the completed work. I'm looking for answers from someone because none of what is being told to me makes sense, when there is a problem with water coming into or around the house you look as high up as you possibly can and these issues are higher up then the gutters and areas worked on by Above All. * **** **** ******** ** *** *** *********** *** **** **** ****** ** **** ** *******

    Hi Stephanie,

I certainly understand the disappointment when issues present after work has been completed.  What I plan to do is, I will look into the work that was completed, by our company, and speak with Marvin (Insulation Supervisor) to understand the project a bit better and then I would like to connect either in person (on site), or on a video call to discuss your project and situation.

In the meantime, can you provide times we could meet next week, plan for a site visit at your home, and we can determine whether that is required.  Please provide 3 times that could work for you and you can email me directly.

    Thanks,

    Lars

I got a quote from Above All back in early summer 2023. The quote was comparable to other roofing companies. They quoted me $****** to have my roof done. I paid a $***** deposit to get on their waitlist and they came to do my roof on September 11th and 12th 2023. Once the work was done, our yard was trashed. There was balls of tar, packing tape and shingles left all over the yard and many busted Christmas lights. After popping two tires on my lawn mover, my partner and I took a deeper look into the yard and found over 170 nails. Some nails were close to the perimeter of the house and others were up to 50ft away. I emailed Above All right away and they responded saying they would cover the cost of my tires and send a crew over to do a better job of clean up. The following week, when the crew came over, I came home to find my garbages in the middle of my driveway, patio furniture not returned to where it was and even after they left I did another sweep with a magnet tool that I purchased myself and found an addition 30+ nails. Between all of this the owner offered me $****** off. I do not believe this is a fair deal after all the hours (25 + hours) my family and I spent cleaning up our yard. Additionally, we are hesitant to spend time in our backyard with young kids and animals with worries that they will step on a nail. The owner knows I am not satisfied with the $****** off my bill. He said I can make an appointment in person to further discuss but he has cancelled the meeting with no solution to reschedule the meeting. I have still only paid the $***** deposit so far. I have received an email noting that I now owe an 2% interest fee because I haven't paid yet, but the owner is making it difficult to schedule an appointment to further discuss my complaint and concerns.

History: In, I belief it was 2014, I had Above All top off my insulation in my attic and put in vents. They changed my vent from the bathroom from going out the back of the house to the roof at that time. I had problems with the bathroom vent then leaking and there was two or three times that Bill ****** came to my house and drained the vent for me and then we decided to put it out the back of the house again. I did not have any problems after this and I had no problems with my kitchen vent until after the roof was replaced in 2020.
Also when I was getting a quote for the roof, I asked how come I am getting new vents as I paid for 4 brand new vents in 2014 and they were only 6 years old. I was told that they would need to be replaced when doing the roof. Two of them were the ones that spun and I did not have difficulty with the kitchen vent at this time before the roof was done.

Also, I had phone conversations with Marvin in regards to my kitchen vent and the last time was in the spring of this year where he sent two men to go up and look at it on March 16, 2023. The man who was in the attic exclaimed that there was a hole in the roof and the other man went and saw it and said who ever did your roof I would need to contact and hope it is under warranty. That is when I let them know that it was Above All that did my roof the company that they both worked for. I tried speaking with Marvin and he said that they did not tell me this. That is when I received the email from Marvin (March 29, 2023) and started communicating with Dan.

The first time the workers came to repair the hole on June 22nd, 2023 they said that the hose to the kitchen vent was installed incorrectly, that not enough insulation was put on top of it. That is when I told them that they were here to move the hose to go out the back of the house and fix the hole in the roof. They ended up not doing it because there were wasps in a vent that they were not to take out but were going to. I asked Shane (who was now the supervisor )about the wasps and the vents are suppose to not be able to get into them, so there was something wrong with the functioning of the vents.

On June 26, 2023 they came to do the roof and change the vent and I asked that Shane come personally to inspect the work with me being there. He was to come first thing Tuesday Morning July 4th, 2023 and when he did not show up at the agreed on time I called a half hour later and asked if he was coming. He said he was held up and would be at my place in 20 minutes.

We inspected the back vent where the kitchen vent was directed to. I asked him about why it was not flush to the stucco. Shane told me that that was just the type of vent. He then went up to in the attic and when he came down I asked him about the work and if it was all done properly. He told me "yes, it was all completed". I asked if it was okay for me to use the ladder and go up and see for myself, Shane said okay. I went up and the hole was not repaired and that is when I found out that the two vents were also removed and they did not fix the wood in the roof proper. I came down exasperated and expressing that nothing was done as agreed, Shane said that he was not trying to deceive me!! I asked Shane about the two by four that was used and he said that it is to secure the shingles to it. I also asked why he told me that the roof was fixed and why they took out the two vents when that was not what was agreed on.

When Dan and Shane came to see me on Monday July 10th 2023 it was to come up with an agreement and Dan said that after he did the work we could talk about what I mistakenly said as compensation but what I want is to be refunded for a partially fixed roof and vents that I did not have to purchase.

Dan went to fix the roof and Shane ended up in the back of the house changing the vent to the kitchen fan. I asked him about the vent and why he is changing it as he clearly told me that the vent does not go flush against the house. He said that they put in a vent that is to be used on a house with siding not stucco. I also went up on the ladder to see the roof and there was a piece of underlay that was arched. I asked him about water getting into it as I am concerned about the patching and he said that that is normal.

What I would like is to be have a refund of monies that I paid for a brand new roof as I have been lied to by a number of employees there as well as I was told by another professional roofer that I had asked to go up into the attic and give me his professional opinion on how it was done. He said that the "hole" in the roof is not how he would of done it but he would not touch it as it is more likely to lead to problems in the future due to the sealing of the shingles. That is why I wanted to have at least the east side of the roof redone. When I told this to Dan he said that he has patched his roof a number of times and has had no problems. The person I had come in also said that the two bigger vents were good quality ones and that I have no mold problems up there. He showed me pictures and explained to me in detail about what he observed.

Also, I had to enquire why the eavestroughs and soffit was not installed on the east door overhang and Dan said that they could reduce the bill by $*** which this was not done with the first invoice and I had to again contact them to get it reduced. The **$ that I am being quoted by Dan for the vent in the front gable, I am not even sure that this is accurate as I was told by Shane that the vent they installed that connected to nothing was about ***$.

I feel that I am not being heard and just getting the run around so that is why I am reaching out for support and what I would like is to be charged fairly for a roof that has three patches in it as well for the vents and work that I was charged for that did not need to put installed.

I am rejecting this response because: I do not feel comfortable not  knowing exactly the purpose of Lars coming to take pictures of my house attic and roof. We did have a video call and I did agree for him to come out but did not set up a time because I was hesitant of this.  I do not think that I am being heard *** *** ******* * *** ***** *** ***** * *** ****  I also realized that I may have been charged for work that I did not have done …..2 plumbing stacks instead of one during our video call.  Also what he mentioned about a 10 year warranty but then said that if there are issues with the work then it is usually in the first few years that it would be used.  I don’t feel the resolution to this is addressing the  issues that I have brought up. It seems to be trying to prove the quality of work.

    Cathy,

I'm sorry my offer wasn't satisfactory.  I thought we had a respectful and constructive conversation.  The purpose for me to come and inspect, document, and review the work and invoices with you was 1) to insure Above All provided the required standard and the current condition is correct.  That is our commitment we make to our customers and I wanted to ensure we successful fulfilled that commitment 2) to ensure your confidence in the installation and our commitment to stand behind our work for the next decade.  I know working through renovations and deficiencies can be stressful, being a founding owner and General Manager of Above All, we have completed nearly  re-roof installations here in Winnipeg.  The intent of my offer was to provide a service to regain trust with the hope to successfully move forward.   If you change your mind regarding the inspection, or if you have a recommendation you would like to share, please let me know.

    Regards,

    Lars *********

    Customer Answer

Our video conversation did not indicate the reasons you stated here as to why you wanted to come and inspect and take pictures.
    1) right at the beginning of your conversation you did say you would 100% stand behind Dan’s work prior to inspecting the work completed.
    2) I asked for reimbursement of the vents that were installed for no reason and then taken out without my consent.  As well reimbursement for the one plumbing stack that was done as I only have one and I was charged for two.

the 10 year warranty on the patchwork would be reasonable to accept but what I  did not understand was the purpose of you coming and taking pictures and inspecting again what you stated you would 100% stand behind when you did not look at the work first.

your recalling of our video conversation did not indicate the extra vents or the plumbing stack which can be seen on what work that had been done as well by coming by and looking at my home.

I have very little time and have taken up a lot of time with the getting the work done on my home.  So your offer of coming to inspect again what has been inspected and pictures have been taken of it all did not make sense to redo it again.

    Respectfully

    Cathy

Trespassing after explicitly saying to NOT go on my property , property damage possibly under the ICE Chunks that where thrown into my back yard from my neighbors garage roof on my fire pit. Walked on top of items UNDER the snow in my back yard that where NOT VISIBLE and maybe broken. Left huge mess ON MY FRONT STEPS and side walk. Went on my brand new 10 month old roof after telling them NOT TOO TO GO ON MY PROPERTY. Left garbage and debris everywhere in my yards and roof.

    Hi Dillon,

My initial goal is to understand the situation.  You mention in your email that you have a video doorbell recording that provides insight into the situation.  Can you provide this to review?  Also, you previously mentioned a few items that might have been damaged as a result of the roof work we completed next door. I don't believe any evidence of damages has yet been provided.  Please provide any documented damages for review.  I am also happy to meet you onsite to view these items together in person.
