      In January, 2022, I financed a used 2015 Volkswagen Golf from Wheaton Honda Edmonton. I did not put extended warranty on the vehicle as I was shown they had done a full mechanical inspection of the vehicle. Within the first 2 days of driving the vehicle, I needed to return it to fix the wheel bearings and some wiring that was affecting the headlights and EPC Light. They fixed this without charge. June 9, 2022, my car would not start. I contacted the dealership to see if there was anything they could do to help. they said no and that I should take it into a shop closer to me (Calgary). After hours of diagnosing, the Volkswagen South Centre dealership informed me that the timing chain had fallen off and damaged the engine and the engine needs to be replaced. I spoke to the Edmonton Dealership and they told me the best they could do was wave the fee that I would have been charged if I payed out the vehicle before August 15, 2022. At this point I am trying to find a cheap used engine to put in the vehicle and sell it as I am out of a vehicle right now. I have had the car for 5 months and had bought it in good faith from a dealership I hear to be reputable.

      Every Used vehicle does get a full mechanical inspection and when the vehicle is sold it is accompanied with a 3 month/5,000 km powertrain warranty from the dealer.  We cannot predict future issues this far from the sale date as there are too many variables involved with the usage of the vehicle.  We believe we have gone above and beyond with this situation as we had picked up and dropped off the vehicle for the initial repair from Calgary.  In this instance the extended warranty that was declined would have covered this repair and that is why we offer extended coverage over and above the standard warranties that come at time of sale.
