Our accountant, ***** ******* sold his business to Sapphire Accounting but never told this to us until we inquired about our business documents. Although ***** was paid to do our taxes, he did not return our documents but instead sold them to Sapphire Accounting when he sold his business to them. Sapphire Accounting has acknowledged in an email that in order to confirm they are indeed our documents, we supply them with our CRA number. This number was provided to Sapphire Accounting however, Sapphire Accounting is no longer responding to our emails as to when we can retrieve our documents.Business response

Good Afternoon,
******** **** was a client of ***** ******* the previous owner of Sapphire Accounting. We reviewed old records in our system and ***** had worked on her file in 2009 and 2010. The company changed ownership in 2014 and we have no records of having physical files for ********. All documents that have not been picked up by the client would have been shredded after 7 years.
Thank you,
******* ******

I am rejecting this response because:The email below is what *** **** from Sapphire Accounting sent me on January 5, 2023 stating that Sapphire Accounting was in possession of some of our documents, therefore ******'s response that Sapphire Accounting doesn't have our documents is false. I provided *** **** with the information he requested and he chose not to respond after I did--it is clear then that ****** ****** stopped him. That, in itself shows that ****** ****** chose to shred the very documents that *** **** said he had. ***** ******* never told us that he sold his company to Sapphire Accounting and ****** ****** never reached out to us, therefore we did not know that she was in possession of our documents. It is unethical and unprofessional that ***** ******* from ******* ********* as well as ****** ****** and *** **** from Sapphire Accounting choose to conduct shady business practice and hide behind a 7 year policy to shred our documents even after *** **** acknowledged that Sapphire Accounting was indeed in possession of our documents up to January 5, 2023. We are clearly not satisfied with ****** ******'s response and Sapphire's Accounting shady practice. We will let the evidence of *** ****'s email from Sapphire Accounting speak for itself.

********,
In the initial complaint nothing was mentioned about either of your companies. Because of this I look into our program for history on your personal taxes. Again, we do not have any physical documents for you personally. Any information we have on your personal file is an electronic archived copy of the tax return that was filed.
***'s email was referring to your companies ******* ********** ***. and ******* ******** ***., we do not have any physical documentation for either of these companies. We have no record of having them, any document prior to 2017 would have been shredded. Storing clients paperwork takes up office space and we have no desire to keep documents from clients. We also understand that this is the clients property and we have no right to hold it from the client. If we did have any paperwork for ******** or either business we would gladly return it. But that is not the case.
*** was referring to our archived electronic copies of the bookkeeping and the corporate tax files from ***** (the previous owner prior to 2014). The most recent information in the electronic archived files is for 2014. Again we have no physical documents for either of the companies or ********.

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because: the first response from ****** ****** of Sapphire Accounting was false and this second response from Sapphire Accounting, without the name of the writer, is also false and unprofessional.
Why didn't ****** ****** or *** ****, since 9 January 2023, when I provided *** **** with the info he requested, respond to my several emails? It also took more than one request through the BBB before ****** ****** finally responded. The falsehood of her claims was exposed by my including *** ****'s very email in my response to ****** ******.
Since Sapphire Accounting second “no name” response to BBB continues to build on ****** ******’s false claims, I have now included the entire email thread below to demonstrate and expose Sapphire Accounting’s ongoing falsehoods. For instance, Sapphire Accounting’s claim that my initial email to Sapphire Accounting wasn’t regarding my company’s documents is false. See my email in the thread below which clearly shows that I specifically enquired about ******* *********** **** I did not enquire about ******* ******** *** until *** **** first claimed that he had some tax documents for ******* ******** ***.
*** ****’s response not only specifically addressed ******* *********** ***, *** **** additionally claimed that he did, in fact, specifically have “some” “tax documents” for ******* ******** ***. This is abundantly clear from *** ****'s response: "I’ve scoured through our old records, and haven’t been able to find any tax documents related to ******* *********** ***. I do have some for ******* ******** ***.”
Furthermore, if Sapphire Accounting’s second BBB response "that *** **** was referring to “archived electronic copies of bookkeeping and the corporate tax files from *****” is true, then *** **** would not have stated: “I do have some for ******* ******** ***” in his January 5, 2023 email to me. Had he not had some physical tax documents for ******* ******** ***, he would have no reason to request that I confirm ******* ******** *** business number, so he can be sure he was providing the appropriate information.
Moreover, if Sapphire Accounting’s claim is true that Sapphire Accounting has "no physical documents for either of the companies", why didn't *** **** clarify that 3 months ago when I emailed Sapphire Accounting several times and supplied the information that *** ****’s requested as shown below in my unanswered emails? Additionally, why did it take Sapphire Accounting several requests by the BBB to claim this falsehood? *** **** request of me: “Can you please confirm the *** business number, so I can be sure I’m providing the appropriate information?” would be foolish if he did not indeed have “some” “tax documents related to” ******* ******** ***. It is clear that *** **** had intentions of providing me with ******* ******** *** physical tax documents when he responded to my initial request about ******* ********** *** on January 5, 2023 but then changed his mind, ****** ******.
Therefore, it is clear that Sapphire Accounting is poorly attempting to cover up ****** ******’s falsehood in her first response to BBB and *** ****’s response to me on January 5, 2023 that he did indeed have some tax documents for ******* ******** ***. I have responded to Sapphire Accounting’s many falsehoods with supporting evidence and I challenge Sapphire Accounting to adequately respond specifically to my questions. I am also requesting that *** **** hand over to me ******* ******** *** tax documents that he clearly stated that he had in his possession in his email on January 5, 2023.
As stated previously, ***** ******* did not inform me that he sold his company to Sapphire Accounting until December 17, 2022. As well ****** ****** and Sapphire Accounting did not reach out to me to retrieve ******* ******** *** tax documents therefore, Sapphire Accounting cannot destroy my company’s documents without first giving me an opportunity to retrieve them. It is also clear from *** ****’s January 5, 2023 own admission that he is in possession of ******* ******** *** tax documents which is the reason he asked me to confirm ******* ******** *** *** business number.
Sincerely,
******** ****
